Can I withdraw my Thai DTV application and reapply in another country while it's pending?

Hi everyone — hoping someone here has experience with this.

1. Can you withdraw an application? I've accepted I won't get my application fee back.

2. If not, can I go to another country an re-apply (basically with 2 active applications).

I currently have a DTV application in process through Kuala Lumpur, but they came back requesting additional documentation that is difficult for me to obtain even though I have everything. (minimum 6-month lease proof, contracts certfied by the embassy, etc...). From what I’ve seen online, KL seems to be one of the stricter posts. All the original requirements, I have along with the minumum funds amount.

I’m considering traveling to Bali and submitting a new DTV application there, since I’ve heard Indonesia tends to process them faster and with more straightforward document requirements.

My question is:

Has anyone successfully submitted a second DTV application in another country while an earlier one was still pending elsewhere?

I’m trying to avoid a formal rejection on my record if possible, but I’m not sure if the system allows two active applications tied to the same passport.

If anyone has firsthand experience with this (KL → Bali / another consulate), I’d really appreciate hearing how it worked.

Thanks in advance.

I am going to try to reach out to "withdraw" but not sure this will work. However, I am confident I will get approved quickly in Indonesia.
Answer summary
The user is seeking advice on their pending DTV application at the Thai consulate in Kuala Lumpur, which requires difficult additional documentation such as a minimum 6-month lease and certified bank statements. They are considering withdrawing the application and reapplying in Bali, where they believe the process is faster and more straightforward. Community responses suggest it is possible to request a cancellation of the current application before reapplying at another consulate, but they warn of the strictness at the Kuala Lumpur office and the potential challenges of managing two active applications.

Definitely. Expensive lesson learnt.

Will be requesting them to cancel the application and then jumping on a flight to bali to reapply

Is there an update on your situation? I'm having similar troubles at the moment and I'm thinking of doing the same next step.

Hey Lenny, my plan is still to ask KL to cancel and then reapply from Bali since their process seems way more straightforward. I’ll update once I’ve done it, but from what I hear it should be smoother there.

You can ask them to cancel this application. Only then can you submit a new application at a different embassy. Thats what I had to do.

It would help other applicants at Kuala Lumpur in particular and maybe elsewhere if you would say what this 'additional documentation that is difficult for you to obtain' is? You state you are in accordance with their published requirements. Therefore Kuala Lumpur must be operating contrary to their own rules. You will appreciate this could cause unnecessary unease to others which I am sure you wish to avoid?

Yes, KL is known to be the most strict Thai consulate office.

Some additional they are requesting are:

- minimum 6 month lease agreement from a rental company (even though I don’t even have the DTV yet)

- They want my bank to “certify” 6 months of banking statements even though they have the official statements which clearly show the income

- I have written a full cover letter along with client contracts and paid invoices, but they still want a description of my job (which was already sent)

- they want me to go to my embassy and have them certify my business registration (which is something the Canadian embassy simply doesn’t do)

Jakarta was taking a month recently, I havent seen any super recent posts though. Hanoi or Laos are generally under a week.

Do you have to have 6 month lease, or can it be shorter?

yes, the Thai consulate in Malaysia are requiring me to show a minimum 6-month lease.

Despite me having more than than required amount of funds over the last 3 months (500k baht) shown in official bank statements, they want my bank to “certify” it.

They also want me to go to the Canadian embassy and have them “certify” my business registration which is something the Canadian embassy simply doesn’t do lol

Is this for where you get your visa or for everyone?

It is something that is specific to certain Embassies or Consulates. Most won’t require more than a few days/week in a hotel but generally expecting applicants to have a signed 6+ month lease is rare.

UnforgettableRambutan8343 yeah, all my friends who applied from Bali or VN literally just put their hotel and it was all good.

I’m hindsight, I should have applied from there instead of KL.

The Thai consular offices in Malaysia are quite strict and wish to see 6+ months worth of proof of accommodation (hotel booking, lease, etc)
