Has anybody used onward ticket to book a return flight, if my UK tourist visa don't come through and I have booked my flights for the 60 days, I need to show I will return within 30 days, to be able to fly over there and once over there I can go to the immigration and get my extension
Answer summary
The discussion revolves around using an onward ticket to demonstrate intent to leave Thailand, particularly if a tourist visa is pending approval. Many participants shared personal experiences, confirming that an onward ticket can be accepted by airlines and Thai immigration. Several alternatives were suggested, such as purchasing affordable bus tickets to neighboring countries like Laos, and seeking a visa extension at the local embassy for longer stays. The consensus indicates that a genuine travel itinerary may suffice in lieu of a return ticket.

You can get an extended visa by going to the Thai embassy in whatever country you are in and ask for a visa for the term of your return flight.

I got told if I have an itinerary where im leaving the country it should be sufficient. I'm applying for a METV and at 60 days ill be travelling to Padang Besar by train. You can't book as it's a buy at station ticket.

I have used this and the airline accepted it. Now I get a bus or train ticket to Laos as that’s a genuine ticket. I think the 60 day tourist visa is an easier way to do it. All online. No need to spend hours at an immigration office.

You could try booking a Nong Khai to Vientiane bus ticket for before your initial 30 days are up , it only costs a few dollars . You don't even have to take the trip , just apply for your extension once in Thailand .

I've seen a couple of posts where people say they have been pulled up by both the airline and Immigration using that sort of ticket. I have no idea how true those posts were but I would be buying a real ticket that can be cancelled and a refund issued. Yes, they cost more but you get it back so the cost is really zero but check the conditions and comply.

Alan Bow it’s really not. You can apply for it online. They ask 8 things. You’ll provide that. Cost you about 30 minutes and then you pay 30 pounds. And wait for the visa come in to your email

If you only want to go for 60 days you do not need a visa, you go with the visa exempt method that grants you 30 days, and than before the 30 days are over you go the local immigration office to extend it for another 30 days

Ronny Liekens my airline will not let me board if I don’t have proof of either the single entry visa or ongoing travel before the 30 days visa free entry.

I am going for 59 days .

Double check with the airplane you are flying with.

Mine is AirCanada from Vancouver to Bangkok.
Phil ********

Ronny Liekens Yes he does need a visa if he doesn't buy an ticket out that's within his 30 days exempt stay. Extensions are not guaranteed - they are at the discretion of the officer on the day - neither his airline or the I.O. on entry will accept a date after his exempt entry expires.

OP
yes but i still have to show the airline that Ime retuning in 30 days even though i am going to get the extension ,then you need to book that flight ,or change your existing flight

they rarely ask that. It’s not always.

Even if they do ask book cheapest possible ticket from Thailand to any neighboring country. Any random cheapest flight that you’ll never use

Okay some airlines are getting tougher, so you book a fully refundable or flexible exit ticket within the first 30 days. or buy a cheap short flight ticket that you are not going to use, so your airline let you fly and you can prolong the visa exempt

Or just apply for a tourist visa online. Easy and cheap.

check with your airline. I'm in a similar situation and Emirates have told me I can't board without either a 60 day visa OR a flight out of Thailand within the first 30 days..I'd then have to go to immigration to get a 30 day extension. You don't have to use the flight out of Thailand, but have to show at check-in that I have intentions of leaving Thailand via air. So please check with your airline
