TLDR : Answer Summary
You can use foreign credit cards in Thailand, especially at larger vendors who accept them, but small vendors may not. Be aware of foreign transaction fees your card might charge. It's advisable to choose to pay in Thai Baht to avoid unfavorable exchange rates. Your credit limit usually remains the same as in your home country, but you should notify your card issuer of your travel to avoid declined transactions, especially for large purchases.

Yes, I've had no issues with using my credit cards at any vendors I shop. The only time I've had difficulty is occasional online orders. Most of the time it's a problem with the vendor's system, not my credit cards.

For large purchases you may need o call bank in advance. Navy federal decline me for an iPhone purchase. While in store I called and explained it was not fraud. They lift the restriction instantly. There reason was I didn't use that often. And always notify when your traveling.

You usually need to enable use abroard, by phoning the card provider, telling them the country you want to use it and for how long. Ask them about fees and limits and such, while on the phone.

Perhaps for some banks that aren't used to international customers, but I use my cards all over and no need to tell anyone the details. I might go to Japan this week and Dubai next week and USA after that. If you have to report all of this to your card issuer, I'd drop the card and go to someone else!

phoning is old fashioned. In most - if not all banks - you can do that yourself.

This is not something we can answer directly. You’ll need to contact your card issuer (the phone number is usually printed on the back of your card).

Card limits vary from person to person, but in most cases your limit will remain the same when you are abroad as it is in your home country.

Just be sure to notify your card issuer that you’ll be traveling in Thailand to avoid any issues.

Accepting depends if the merchant takes foreign credit cards. Your limit depends on the issuer of your card.

You credit card issuer will charge conversion fees / international fees id check with them. I would honestly pull cash off a debit card for day to day use it will be alot cheaper on you

no fees on currency conversion ? Which card do you have when i had visa or my master card they charged a currency conversion fee im talking credit card vs debit

You can use a foreign-issued credit card, but check whether it has foreign transaction fees. Also, if the terminal asks whether to pay in your home currency or in Thai Baht, always choose Thai Baht, otherwise, you’ll likely get a worse exchange rate.

I Thailand Qr codes are used to scan to pay for almost everything, there is an app that can be used to allow to link you own bank account from any country and pay using your phone to scan a qr code it is very easy and simple to use. TAGTHAI is the name of the app even street vendors use qr scans.

I wonder if TAGTHAI is catching on? I’ve mentioned it to some visitors and they never heard of it. Seems like a good option

The one to choose on atms is without conversion.

Yes though I am referencing POS terminals where I believe it says home currency or Thai Baht (always pick Thai Baht). On ATMs it says with or without conversion, as you say. Same principle.

Chains and large vendors generally accept credit cards. Some will add a service fee which will be a % to account for the processing.

Most small vendors will not accept credit card.

The limit is whatever your credit card limit is?
