Can I get the Thailand Education visa if I take a language course? I would be able to live in Thailand, open a bank account and attend classes correct. No financial requirements, is that right?
Answer summary
Yes, you can obtain a Thailand Education visa (ED visa) for enrolling in a language course. You will have to apply for the visa after enrolling in a certified language school, and the school usually helps with the paperwork. Although the ED visa allows you to live in Thailand and attend classes without significant financial requirements, opening a bank account with this type of visa can be complicated and varies by bank. Major banks may allow accounts with proper documentation, but some might require proof of enrollment in a degree program. It's crucial to ensure the school is certified by the Ministry of Education (MOE) to qualify for the visa.

Would you not be better and smarter to ask the thai immigration these questions
Yes you can get an Ed visa for language schools. Many schools even have an Ed visa program so they handle all the paperwork needed for your appointments. The bank account will be an issue though. I've lost count of the number of banks I've tried and they all insist that I would need to be enrolled in a 4 year Ed degree to open a bank account now not a short course.
I go to ALA language school on Sukhumvit Soi 13. I’m not on an Ed Visa but many students are. The school do a lot of the admin for them and immigration do come to check so all above bird. The course is 2 hrs 3 times a week do not too onerous but immigration require 90% attendance unless you have a medical certificate and they do check. Not sure about bank accounts but no one has broached the subject so I assume there are no issues. Give ALA language school a call. They are very helpful.
Correct, but the language school has to be certified by the MOE to be valid for the student visa. Usually they manage 90% of your documents and tell you what to do, when and where.
Yes, you can open a bank account in Thailand with a Non-Immigrant ED (Education) visa, but it is becoming increasingly challenging and depends heavily on the bank, branch, and specific documentation provided. It is best to try major banks like Bangkok Bank, KBank, or Krungsri near your institution, as some branches may refuse students, particularly those at small language schools.
You need to sign up for a course and pay the school before they will supply the paperwork required to apply for the visa, make sure you pick a school that is able to do so. In Thailand the visa would cost 2000 baht and extensions every 90 days would cost 1900 baht. You do need to attend and study to get the extensions.
