I now understand I can only get reentry permit at Suvarnabhumi immigration office on the day of flying. What I would like to understand is can I go and get the stamp in the morning then leave the airport, returning at night for my flight? Thank you

You can get re-entry permit on the day you flying out, after check-in to the ailine and go into the restricted area at any airport. At least after security screening by airport staff if x-ray security screening is after. Usually you cannot return from there.
