I've lived and worked in Thailand for 15 years on a business visa with work permit (sorry if that's not exactly what its called). I plan to retire next year and move to a Non-O based on being over 55.

I read that the banked 800k needs to be transferred from overseas... but all my savings has come from my working in Thailand?

Thoughts?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster (OP) has been in Thailand for 15 years on a business visa and plans to transition to a Non-O visa for retirement. They questioned whether their required 800,000 baht needs to come from overseas. Respondents clarified that there is no requirement for the funds to be international, as long as the 800k is maintained in a Thai bank account in their name for at least two months prior to applying for the visa. They emphasized that the OP can change their visa extension reasoning without leaving the country.

I believe that the OP has the answers needed for his question.

We wish him success in obtaining the Thai Visa and One year extension of stay he wants.

you've most likely not been on ANY visa ๐Ÿ˜ฎ and instead if you read your stamp you'd see it says "extension of stay permitted until".. <- that's not a visa at all

You wouldn't be switching to ANY Non-O visa you can change the reason for your extension from one based on employment to one based on being over 50 (retirement).

There is no requirement that the 800K baht funds be from overseas when you apply for extensions.

As I said, you're not on any visa now (but I'm sure at some point you were originally on a Non-B visa) and many people "change the reason" for extensions just like you will do, from an extension based on employment to one based on being over 50

the only requirement about the proof of funds using banked money method to get a year extension is that the funds need to be in a thai bank account in your name only for 2 months before you apply for the year extension.

So when you're going to do this you will get the documentation from your employer saying you stop work on xxx date, cancel the work permit, get all the documents, bank letter, copies, etc for the year retirement extension. You'll go to the immigration office and cancel your current extension and immediatelly apply for a new year extension based on being over 50 (retirement) for 1900baht

- one more question Tod - I currently live and work in Chonburi and when I retire I will move to my home in Buriram. Which immigration office should I apply for the new extension based on being over 50?

It would be more convenient to do on Chonburi, so could I 'transfer' to Buriram at a later date?

, Yes, you can do it at Chonburi with your current address. Get a one-year extension based on retirement at Chonburi. Submit TM30 at the Burriram office when all is settled to move out from Chonburi. Don't forget to check with Burriram if they have extra application for you to move in permanently. Then you can report 90 days there in Burriram, and apply for the following extensions.
