Quick question. I will be entering Thailand on a 90 day non-immigrant O for marriage visa. Is it possible/easy to transfer to retirement extension within Thailand? Does the 800k have to be transferred in from overseas? Already have funds in Thai bank account. Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
It is possible to transfer from a Non-Immigrant O for marriage visa to a retirement extension within Thailand, but it depends on the specific terms of your visa. If your visa does not specify restrictions and simply states Non-O, you may apply for a one-year extension based on retirement if you meet the requirements. However, if the visa is specifically noted for marriage to a Thai, you will first need to obtain at least one marriage extension before applying for the retirement extension. Additionally, regarding the 800k requirement, it is necessary to have these funds transferred into your Thai bank account if you do not already have them there.

On the other hand, if there is no additional note on your visa sticker, just saying it is Non-O, you may apply for a 1-year extension based on retirement if you meet the requirements.

isnt it 400k for marriage O visa?

If you are using the banked money method for a 1-year extension based on being married to a Thai national, the amount is 400K thb and has to stay in your account for two months until you submit an application.

It is 800k thb for a 1-year extension based on being over 50 (retirement).

Well spotted (y) I had that in my notepad response that I wrote but when I pasted my earlier comment I forgot it ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

IF your visa states that it was issued for marriage to a thai you can't get an extension based on retirement off it at most immigration offices. You have to get at least one extension for the reason you got the visa (marriage to a thai) so this first year you'd have to get a marriage extension.

BUT

As
@Ellie ******
correctly pointed out, IF there is no notation in the remarks area of the visa you could apply for a year extension based on retirement without any issues at all

Kap Cheng, Surin IO actually asked me to go to Retirement extension from an ME Non-O Spouse visa when I was seeking a Thai Spouse exemption. He said "less paperwork for you and me"

that is a decision you would make, many people would rather only tie up 400K baht for 2 months rather than 800K baht for 7 months and then 400K for the other 5 ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

true. But being the poorest farang in the village, I use monthly transfers. So not much different for me.

ok thanks will wait to see. And if there is no notation the one year extension based on retirement, would the 800k need to be transferred in from overseas? Thanks ๐Ÿ‘

there is no requirement to show where the money comes from when applying for the year extension

That's only when you apply for the 90 day Non-O visa inside the country.
