Just a quick point, if you enter Thailand with more than $20k USD you need to declare it. I believe you also need to report anything over $10k USD leaving the states

that's only for the initial 90 day Non-O if you apply inside Thailand which he is not doing

Check the requirements at the office where you will apply for the extension. I’ve read that some require the funds to be transferred from abroad vice within Thailand.

Are you married to Thai?

If so... only 400,000 Thai baht is required to be deposited in a Thai bank account in your name only.

only if planning a marriage extension. More difficult than retirement. Lots more paperwork.

@Wayne *******
marriage extensions do require MORE documents due to the fraud involved in the marriage option.

@James *******
fraud? I could do marriage easy, but retirement far easier for immigration. Local vs regional and previous BKK only.

it is your choice.

sounds like he's planning on doing retirement regardless. Probably to avoid the paperwork

There is no requirement for international transfer for a 1-year extension. You can just deposit.

Just make sure you have your funds in a Thai bank account for two months before you apply for a 1-year extension.
