Called the NY consulate today and asked for an update on my visa application, since my flight is soon and their processing time is currently around a month. A staff member told me that even if I don't get approved in time, I can go to Thailand as a tourist and once approved, I can leave the country and re-enter with my visa.
Though I suppose immigration could still turn you away when you try to enter.
Just sharing what they said. Don't shoot the messenger cause some of y'all can be jerks lol

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user inquired about the possibility of entering Thailand as a tourist while waiting for their visa approval from the NY consulate. The consulate mentioned that it is possible to travel to Thailand with a tourist visa, and once the visa is approved, individuals can leave and re-enter the country with their new visa. Community members confirmed this practice, noting that entry is typically granted without issue, although there could be circumstances requiring further documentation. It was advised that applicants remain aware of the potential need for interviews or additional documentation that might arise after leaving the country.

do whatever you want... this SHOW ME is from one in denial. Good Luck π. You'll need it.
Look at the Thai Embassy or Consulate website... many have that posted on it. ASK the Thai Embassy or Consulate... you will be told to STAY IN THE COUNTRY.
That's correct information. Has been done a thousand times already. No issue if that's what you want. Immagration won't turn you away when you come in on your DTV for what reason you are legitimate
True that you could enter Visa Exempt. However, the Consulate staffer isnβt thinking clearly enough. What if NY Thai Consulate invited you for interview after you had departed for Thailand?
