TLDR : Answer Summary
The possibility of converting a long stay visa (specifically the Special Tourist Visa or STV) to an education visa while in Thailand is not allowed. Comments indicate that the STV cannot be converted to another visa within the country, and attempting to do so could lead to expulsion and blacklisting. If you are already in Thailand, the STV allows for maximum stays of 90 days, but it is being phased out.

Are you already in the country ?

If not read one of latest posts about STV it looks like it is being phased out.

If you are already in country max you can stay is 90 + 90 + 90

I would advise going another route than the STV. Get a tourist visa and able to convert to education visa in country.

If you are serious about learning Thai look at Duke Language school

The only “ 9 month” visa I know is the STV. Attempting to convert this visa into another is a ground for being expelled from Thailand and blacklisted, according to the application.

It says on the aplication can not convert? Oh shit another good plan eats the dirt :(

@Brendan ****
that’s correct, it does. The STV was designed for a small, specific niche of tourists.

Oh, so no extention? Some schools say yes. But i need some official confirmation.

if you entered on an STV, it CAN NOT be converted, and will result in you being thrown out of the country.

Where it says

Please reminded that STV is for tourism purpose ONLY. Employment is prohibited. If found out, a stay permit maybe revoked or the person will be blacklisted from entering Thailand.
