Can I buy short-term health insurance for my OX visa in Thailand before a temporary departure?

I have an OX multi-entry visa issued in Australia with 3.5 years to run. I’m leaving next week for a 10 day visit to Australia and understand I will need to show proof of health insurance meeting the new 1 Oct 22 requirements when I return. If I intend to leave Thailand again as soon as December, this time for 5 months, can I just buy the insurance for a short period just to cover me until I leave again in December (understanding I will need to buy it again in May next year when I return)?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has an OX multi-entry visa valid for 3.5 years and wants to know if they can purchase short-term health insurance to meet the new requirements for their upcoming return to Thailand after a 10-day trip to Australia, given they plan to leave Thailand again in December.

I think you got enough information for your original question. If you have anything directly related to the original question, please contact one of the moderators to re-open this post.

why are you trying to get away from having the year insurance on the OX visa? unless I'm wrong you need the
******
out/in patient coverage and the 100K USD general as well

Well, any web browser can open PD nowadays.

But in this precise case, the link I gave is NOT not PDF but a simple web page. I can open it with any of the six browsers I have on my Mac, my iPhone or my iPad. Don't see any technical problem, sorry.
Bernard ********
And the PDF at the link is related with the O-A visa not other any type of Thai visa, and not the O-X one.

I didn’t have any problem accessing the web page you sent. it was the link
@Bobby *******
sent that I couldn’t ‘open’ but now I realise I have to copy and paste it, so all good

Yes I don't know why, but when I pasted the link it didn't show as live. Both times. I've posted this link before and there's never been a problem, but the fault is probably at my end.

@John *******
It's a PDF so you'll need a PDF reader to open it

I searched the group posts under ‘insurance’ and thought that the
******
out/in patient coverage had been replaced by a general 3m baht requirement starting 1 Oct or did I misunderstand that part?

@John *******
This is the MFA document relating to changes to the insurance. It mentions only the OA visa, so I'd say you're pretty safe. I've been looking into getting the OX on my next visit back to Aus, and I've seen nothing about changes to the insurance. There's very few people get the OX due to the stringent financial requirements, and as
@James *******
has pointed out Sydney seems to stand alone as the only consulate which specifies money in your home country, making it possibly the best long-term visa available anywhere in the world

This is on the Sydney Thai Consulate website and shows the
******
AND the 100K covid coverage (sorry I thought that was general coverage) as a requirement to GET an OX visa, no idea what the real coverage is if you already have one in your passport
Bernard ********
@John *******
As far I understand, for some reason for which Thai immigration has the secret, the new 3m bht requirement is only for new OA visa and AO year stay extensions, but OX visa keeps the same insurance requirement as before.

thanks for this important info! Is there any source you can point me to with these details, or any other means of confirming that this is still the case?

@John *******
Ask your Thai immigration office. Their answer is the IMPORTANT one for you.

all I see you'll be out of the country for 5 months and don't wanna carry the insurance during that time. Sorry I didn't quite understand that part

because I won’t be in Thailand for half the year so I figured having a year’s worth of insurance would be a waste.

And frankly I am surprised that you may risk the OX visa you obtained from the Sydney Thai Embassy.

Pardon me....

You have the BEST Thai Visa in the world and seeking to nickle and dime the insurance requirement.

NO other Thai Embassy or Consulate in the world offers the OX without PROOF of having the money required in a Thai bank account in your name only.

Suggest you look at the Thai Embassy website for Sydney And obtain the One year Insurance Policy with foreign insurance certificate. There are policies which offer higher deductible to reduce premium costs.

I fully understand you are reading the website's wording to show proof of insurance for the time period you are in Thailand.

Read further where it says ...

You are requested to get the insurance for one year.

Be thankful for the OX visa..

Would not risk losing it over the insurance requirement.

Good Luck 🤞
