My O-A Visa, issued at Thai Consulate in Los Angeles expires in a few months. I'm heading back to California mid March and will stamp back in a few days before the O-A visa expires and get an "Admitted Until" date of 2021. Can I still buy a re-entry visa during this time if I want visit another Country, or should I start making steps towards extending my O-A or converting over to an O? Appreciate any help or suggestions. TIA

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires if they can purchase a re-entry permit after their O-A visa expires but while still having a valid entry stamp. Comments suggest that as long as they have a valid entry stamp, they can obtain a re-entry permit. They also consider switching to a Non-Imm-O visa to avoid mandatory health insurance.

your ACS would only count if you apply for a Non-Imm-O/A visa in your home country, and only being accepted for the first year of an O/A visa (and only IF they sign the certificate). Once you step into the second year of an O/A, upon re-entry you will eventually be asked for proof of a tgia-listed Thai health insurance. You'd best follow Tod Daniels' advice and get out of the O/A and into a Non-Imm-O for which you will not need a Thai health insurance (however of course you may keep your ACS insurance for peace of mind)

Will explore the Non-Imm-O option next year.

..re-entry permit, not re-entry visa. That's the key!

OK, thanks, that's good news. I was speculating that as the visa will have expired when I go for a Re-entry visa, I wouldn't get it. I have health insurance already, which exceeds the Thai requirements, as I ride a scooter and a motorcycle frequently. Oddly enough ACS is currently not on the "Approved" list for health insurance but hoping that will change in 2020. Thanks again for your help. cheers Tod

I have ‘ accident ‘ and life insurance because I too drive a scooter ... BUT that’s not health insurance, I guess you know that and yours includes ‘ health ‘ .. just saying 😉

you can buy a re-entry permit and use the valid entry stamp on that visa (the second year stamp) as long as you want to.

Whether you are going to make plans to get off the O-A visa, switch to an O and a yearly extension so you don't need to carry the mandatory insurance is your decision.
