TLDR : Answer Summary
Bringing pit bull mixes into Thailand is highly controversial. Officially, the importation of pit bulls, including mixes, is banned. However, some individuals have reported being able to import them through unofficial means, such as hiring agents. It is advised to contact the Animal Quarantine Stations for clarification and to examine documentation thoroughly. Many expats have expressed concerns about the legality and practicality of bringing such breeds, recommending caution due to potential housing restrictions and societal attitudes towards certain dog breeds in Thailand.

Just make sure all of your vaccines are up to date, it's a pretty simple process, just make sure your paperwork is complete

Dustin Jensen it’s illegal to bring them there. They are technically allowed to be in Thailand, but it’s illegal to import them. Without an agent, you will find this out.

Please dont bring your dogs with you.

I did this with my staffy from australia and life here is tough on a large dog.

You are also on a dtv so what do you do every 180 days and then after 5 years.

Rentals are really hard to come by with big dogs.

Dont want to be doom and gloom but please realise it is a hard thing to do.

Anonymous participant 527 definitely doesn’t sound like an easy task. After the 5 years I’d obviously bring them with me though lol the in between 180 days situation is something I think about though for sure

Jett Taylor very easy to get a pet sitter while you leave on vacation. You can pay a local a few hundred baht a day or use trusted housesitters which will get you free international sitters (usual digital nomads or retirees) who trade free petsitting for free accommodation.

Have the dog classified as a staffy which is an acceptable breed

did you use an importer or just check in cargo? We have two big dogs and this is my main concern

I used a company that helped me ship her on a cargo plane, she wasn’t allowed on a regular plane because her breed is considered snub nose so there are restrictions for regular planes

What are they mixed with? Use that breed instead and have your vet draw up the paperwork stating they are an “whatever the acceptable breed is” mix.

You can get DNA tests that will tell you what breeds they are but I don’t know how accurate they are

Pitbulls are a very popular breed here in Phuket. The following documents from the Office of Agricultural Affairs from the Royal Thai Embassy clearly states that “No dog breeds are banned from importation”

There are also the contact details for the Animal Quarantine Stations (who I believe issue the import licenses) towards the bottom of the file. I would suggest giving the one in Bangkok a call and asking.

Remarks:

Pets must be at least 4 months old to be able to import into Thailand.

2. Pit bull Terrier or American Staffordshire Terrierare prohibited for importation into Thailand.

3. As long as pets don’t show any sign of illness, they would not be quarantined.

Anonymous participant 286 that’s why this is so confusing. Two conflicting answers on official Thai embassy pages. That’s why I came here to ask if anyone actually had

Jett Taylor yes, that is very confusing. My suggestion would be to email AQS in whichever airport you plan to fly into. If you do not get a response within 7 days then call them and ask them to reply to your email. Just be prepared to have to call multiple times as they are often too busy to pick up. If you have a response via email at least you have something in writing, direct from the people responsible for issuing the import permit.

Pitbulls are banned in Thailand. Yes, you may be able to pay an agent to import one, but that won’t make your dog any more legal. It’s not a great idea, as people here love to talk about their neighbors especially when a foreigner does something he shouldn't.

You can't actually move permanently because it's still a tourist visa although a long-term one
