The official post on the Thai govt Facebook pr page said that the krabi sandbox is an ‘extension of the Phuket sandbox’. I’m trying to find out if that means I can arrive in Phuket and sandbox directly in krabi (which happens to be my final destination)

Yes you can. You will have to book SHA+ transport straight from the airport to your SHA+ accommodation in Krabi and wait for the results of your pcr on arrival there. You can do the second pcr in Krabi
