TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation addresses whether individuals in Samui can apply for a 60-day COVID extension before utilizing the standard 30-day extension to which they are entitled. A participant suggests that certain immigration offices might require applicants to first obtain their 30-day extension, while others might allow the COVID extension to be granted directly. Opinions vary, with some stating that one must comply with the initial regulations, while others claim flexibility exists at the Samui immigration office. The context hints at ongoing changes or adaptation in policy due to the COVID situation.

no, I was at Samui immagration a week ago and they said I had to get the 30day entitled extention first. Depending on the situation near the end of the extention, I could come back 7 days before it expires and apply for the 60days covid extension.

okay, it seems like the O/P is a recent arrival to thailand and has come in either on a 'regular' tourist visa OR a visa exempt entry AND they have not gotten their 30 day "normal" extension yet. They're asking IF they can skip that one and go straight for the 60 day covid extension specifically at the Samui Immigration office .

the way it works is that is a TOTALLY 100% immigration office and sometimes the immigration officer IN that office's call. Many offices are making new arrivals on the two stamps I mentioned above take their 30 day 'regular' extension before allowing the 60 day covid extension BUT some will let you do it as long as you understand the covid extension starts the day you apply and is not added to your current expiration date (meaning you lose any days you had on the entry stamp if you apply early)

not sure I understand. We’re on the 60 day extensions too and as far as I know you can reapply half way through the one you’re on...
