TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster (OP) inquires whether they can apply for a medical treatment visa on behalf of their 8-year-old child who needs braces. Community responses confirm that a youth cannot apply directly for a visa; instead, a parent must apply for their own visa and then include the child as a dependent in the application process.

Read the DTV rules. It clearly states the main applicant needs to be over 18?20? years old. I can't remember the number, but it's written. I'm well over it πŸ˜‚ so didn't care much.

A youth could not apply directly for the DTV, it would have to be a parent who applies for their own DTV scheme, and then they would apply on behalf of the child using dependant status and quoting the parents approved DTV visa number.
