Hello all. I am looking for information on a future visa. I am a U.S. citizen and am planning on retiring in Thailand in the next 3 years. I am currently 62 years old. I keep hearing that I need to apply for my visa in my home country. My issue is I am working on South Korea, have been here over 22 years. Can I apply at the U.S. Embassy here in South Korea?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A U.S. citizen planning to retire in Thailand cannot apply for a visa at the U.S. Embassy in South Korea. Instead, they must apply for a retirement visa (NON-O) at the Thai Embassy or consulate in South Korea, either before traveling or after arriving in Thailand.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
  • Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
  • For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
  • Explore recent discussions by using the Non-O Retirement Visa tag in the search box at the top of the page.

You cannot apply at the US Embassy if you plan on coming to Thailand. You would instead apply through the Thai Embassy or counselate in South Korea.

requirements will probably change in those three years but you can get a basic idea on the Thai Embassy website in Korea.

I see you're a veteran thanks for your service. I spent a year, 88-89 at Camp Casey when I was in the Army.

No you cannot apply for a visa to Thailand from the US embassy.

To apply for a visa to Thailand you have to apply at the Thai embassy.

You can either apply for a retirement visa non-O before you travel or do it after you arrive in Thailand.
