Applying for non-IB visa as i will be working with Thai company. Started the e-visa application through Malaysia embassy but have now been advised that i need to have an entry stamp to even start the application (new information to the company who is helping with the application and said i could apply first and then when approved, just fly in/out and get my visa stamp).

The other options were Laos or Vietnam. Does anyone have a recent experience for this visa type with these embassies that can advise if you can submit the application remotely?

I currently live in Phuket on an ED visa that expires in a couple of months

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is facing issues applying for a non-IB visa while currently residing in Phuket on an ED visa. They began the e-visa application through the Malaysian embassy but were informed that an entry stamp into Malaysia is required to proceed. Other options mentioned include applying through Laos or Vietnam, but they learned that applications must be submitted in-person. Comments confirm that visa applications cannot be done remotely and must be filed from the country where the applicant is located.

Thank you both. Seems like i was given some dud info unfortunately. It happens.

I will arrange a re-entry and go to Malaysia next week to submit the application. Hopefully it all gets approved before my already purchased flights on 15th. I understand its usually about a 3-4day process so will keep my fingers crosses.

No, you can't apply for a visa remotely. If you want to go to Laos you must make an appointment and you will apply in person. If you want to apply through Vietnam then you must be in Vietnam to apply, same as Malaysia.

Sounds right, every e-visa can only be applied for from a country you are currently in, so if you are using the malysian site, you have to prove you are there, it will be the same for other countries. They don't neccessarily ask for a copy of the stamp, but they will ask for some evidence.

@Tony *******
they've asked for a copy of the stamp in this instance.
