DTV Soft Power – Kali / JKD / MATTCOM training
Hi everyone,
I'm an Australian retiree looking at applying for the 5-year Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) under the soft-power / sports training category.
I'm particularly interested in Filipino Kali / Eskrima, Jeet Kune Do (JKD) and MATTCOM training around Nonthaburi or Bangkok.
I understand that Muay Thai and Thai cooking courses are commonly used for DTV applications, but I'm trying to establish whether other genuine martial arts and self-defence training programmes can qualify.
A few questions:
Has anyone successfully obtained a DTV using Kali, Eskrima, JKD or another martial art apart from Muay Thai?
Does the training provider need to be officially registered, licensed or recognised by a particular Thai authority?
What documentation did the Embassy require — acceptance letter, course schedule, payment receipt, school registration or instructor qualifications?
Has anyone applied through the Royal Thai Embassy in Canberra with a non-Muay Thai sports training programme?
Would appreciate recommendations for legitimate Kali / JKD schools around Nonthaburi or Bangkok.
I'm genuinely interested in undertaking regular training over several months, not simply buying a course for visa paperwork.
Thanks for any firsthand experience or advice.
Ken
