You have to be in the jurisdiction of the Thai Embassy during the whole visa process.

Failing to do that, a rejection will be the most likely result, including the loss of the 10.000 Baht visafee.

“The Royal Thai Embassy in Budapest has the authority to provide visa service only to those who are in the listed countries for the entire visa process. Therefore, your visa application will be rejected if you are outside of the listed countries.”

This is a chestnut that I disproved long ago.

The fact that you cannot apply from Thailand means you ned to leave Thailand or not be in Thailand. It does not mean that you need to be in the country where you are currently.

Like you could go to Cambodia, send your passport to the UK for a new Thai visa and enter Thailand from Cambodia with your new Thai visa.

You can also legally have 2 UK passports.

You would be lying on your application if you did so. Which if you were caught visa denied and potentially not allowed into Thailand on another visa or exemption.

But can’t you use a service inside of Thailand. So how does that work ?

Your passport has stamps that immigration can check. You’d have to leave Thailand to activate your DTV and then immigration would see you were in Thailand when you got the visa.

Dispossessed_flipflop that was my worry at first too, but the systems are not connected and usually the IO doesn't care where you came from...

Might have changed now though, I honestly cannot tell.

Look smart at the immigration: no shorts/tanktop/flip flops

You are free to use the services of any visa agent should you so wish. The location of your chosen visa agent is irrelevant.

It works until Immigration find out and you get the visa revoked and blacklisted for one year

How do they know you aren’t in your country, tho ?

They have your passport number. Ive heard people have been asked to scan and submit every page of there passport also. Even if you are in your home country when you apply, if you leave before approved it voids the application.

Easier to just comply with the rules.

Yeah…half countries don’t use stamp anymore…and in Europe, you don’t even need your passport to cross the border…

So still : I don’t know how they would know where you are xD

Thailand records your entry and exit against your passport. If you're currently in Thailand, Immigration will have an entry record without a corresponding departure. I don't know whether embassy staff automatically check that database on every DTV application, but I certainly wouldn't assume they can't verify it.

They can also request additional evidence or require you to attend an in-person interview, which is another way of verifying physical presence.

Best to just play by the rules.

You must physically be in the country you apply from and remain there until the process completes. The new rules mean that country must be either the country you are a citizen of, or another country that you are a permanent resident of.

You need to be there, that didn't change.

Same as before where you must stay in the country where you apply except now it must be the country you have citizenship or permanent residency.
