Hi, does anyone know if a retired visa A-O can be issued for less than a year?

It's for my mum, we have to pay the insurance and she's planning to be less than 9 months, so I'm trying to pay only what I'm going to use and save some money...if possible.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion confirms that a retired OA visa typically cannot be issued for less than one year, but some expats have managed to obtain it with only 9 months of health insurance coverage. While the visa itself might be valid for a year, you do not necessarily have to utilize the full duration of your stay. There are differing experiences based on the embassy or consulate from which the visa is obtained; some require a full year's insurance while others may allow shorter durations if proper documentation is provided.

Tune protect prices depends on duration 1 year $480 and down depending on how many months you want. just tell them only Covid-19 not all the extra crap like flight protection or delays etc.

you were lucky..and when stamped into Thailand will not get one full year.. Only to June 14..but sounds like you got the STV visa for 9 months.

@James *******
I got a 1 year non OA visa in my passport not a STV as it says OA multi in it and dates for visa are 1 year
James ********
No... It's for one full year.

I have to apply for the visa from the Los Angeles consul in US. They require a full year 0-A insurance policy to issue the visa. Travel dates are not taken under consideration you only have to provide a one way ticket to Thailand. Sometimes I do wish I was English.

@Adam *******
That's ashame, When I sent mine off I wasn't 100% they would accept it.

Already fully insured with no limits still have to buy a worthless Thai policy. 400,000 baht inpatient? The whole thing is a joke, at my expense

@Adam *******
I know how you feel cost nearly £3000 with flights, insurance, police check, visa price.medical certificate, RT-PCR test and ASQ hotel.

@Jay ******
Done it twice. No end in sight.

In the US a hospital would charge your insurance more than that for an Ambulance Ride and a few hours in casualty with a minor injury.

@Adam *******
correct

Adam Matani. In that case, the policy can be cancelled and a refund obtained for any unused period providing it is full months

Thanks Adam, did you have that experience yourself?

@Gi *******
My application was not rejected because I provided the proper documentation.

With the OA you’ll be stamped in for a year or as long as you have insurance cover for. You don’t have to use the remaining months if you don’t want to.
