Need help from my fellow friendly expats

(not the ones who sit by the computer bored with shaking hands as they wait for post in forums to write smart ass replies to)

For my helpful expats, I have two questions, one for myself, one for a friend.

1) my friends B visa expires in 2 weeks. Some are saying they can go to immigration to have it changed to a tourist visa, others are saying they must leave the country to change it, which is true?

2) I’m hearing from many that kids under, I believe 16 don’t need a visa here in Thailand, is this true or no?

Thank you in advance to my fellow expats that provide insights.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses two main questions regarding visa regulations in Thailand. The first question asks whether a B visa can be converted to a tourist visa either by going to immigration or if one must leave the country to change it. Additionally, the second question inquires if children under 16 need a visa to reside in Thailand. Community responses suggest that a B visa can often be converted at immigration, but it may depend on specific circumstances, including the visa type and the individual's nationality. Regarding the second question, it is clarified that foreign children do need a visa to stay in Thailand but are not penalized for overstaying until they reach certain ages.

It is always nice to have a second opinion. I already read somewhere it depens on Nationality, no idea what that means.

1. Did your friend stopped working or plan to stop working in Thailand? 2. Foreign children need a visa to stay in Thailand BUT are not fined for overstay till 15 years of age, fined but not blacklisted till 18 years of age.

OK, if he still use the original visa he can just leave the country and apply at a Thai Consulate or Embassy for a new tourist visa. He has to cancel his work permit and if he stayed on an Extension of Stay he has to cancel this also on the last day of working.
