I'm going to Savannakhet Laos, by bus from Bangkok, has anybody done this travel before? Do you know if sleeper buses are available and if I should book online in advance or I can buy at the bus stand?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Traveling from Bangkok to Savannakhet, Laos by bus is common, and there are various sleeper bus options available for this route. Nakhonchai Air is often recommended for comfort. Booking can be done online or at the bus terminal, but advance booking is advisable, especially for sleeper options. Visa requirements for entering Laos should be confirmed prior to travel, as some might need to secure their visa in advance rather than relying on visa-on-arrival.

From Bangkok: Northern Bus Terminal (Mo Chit) you can use a sleeper bus that departs at 6pm and arrives at 6am

Tore Hanssen Valberg there are people who have all the papers and they go there and do get there Visa in 2 days. So why are you posting such a stressful message that you will get locked up? Why aren't you communicating clearly? You know there is a Thai embassy there that gives Visa correct? I have very reliable information to go there and get my Visa done in 2 days. In fact the only Embassy which will give Visa to Indian passport.

Yes, I did it, but I couldn't sleep. 12h, better flight to Nakhon phanon & then can go Thakek in Laos or Mukdahan by bus. When you book the flight you can book directly to Mukdahan

do you know where I can find their bus schedule? Because it is quite far I will need to plan out. I took the bus to come here and it was very painful so I want to take the flight while going back. Let me know because there is no information online about how to get to the airport from here and I will have to change at least two buses I guess and if I don't know what time the buses are it will be very difficult.

Get NachonChaiAir 1st class bus to Ubon, then transfer to Mukdahan/Savannakhet bus. Better still fly to Ubon and transfer.

Nakonchaiair should have a website. Buses run direct from Ubon to Mukdahan, journey time about 2hrs 15 from memory.

it was so awful I would love to give them one star, it was a Frozen hell, it was the most uncomfortable seat I have sat on for a night journey and I am from india. Even though my country is so backward when it comes to traveling and yet somehow they have sleeper bus even though they still don't have bathrooms on the buses, but they have what is more necessary which is the sleeper seats. And even the hostess was not nice, she was smiling but every time I requested her to turn down the AC she just said no and could not speak English. I would never ever ever recommend this bus company to any human being unless they were my big enemies and I wanted them to suffer big time LOL.

it is not a sleeper bus, their seats are not for sleeping completely. They are only pushed back chairs. Do you know if there are sleeper buses?

Yeah there's many VIP buses from Bangkok to Mukdahan, its a very busy route. Probably around a 1000 baht.
