When arriving in Thailand on a 90-day non-O retirement visa with the intention of converting to a one-year visa, is it required to have a return flight or onward ticket?

I thought i would post this and be as brief as possible. i am not new to thailand. i have been traveling here for 16yrs and lived here for 2yrs 2015-2017. probably 10 times over this time frame.

in august 2024 i obtained a 60-day tourist visa via the thai embassy online in the US (a week later they changed the regulation tha this is not needed). i entered thailand and extended my 60day visa for 30days.

exited, on time-on november 1st and spend about 20 days in cambodia via flight. upon arrival, 2 days ago at DMK ariport a very young (25yoa if that) immigration officer read me the riot act, of sort about "i cannot do this" and "i must get a O visa" ect.

i told her i was here for medical care and had both emails and paper copy;'s of such for bangkok hospital. she did not ask to see them, though.

she initially asked for my onward ticket of which i usually "have" one ready. this time i did not thinking nobody asks for that. she DID.

anyways i will sort this out with immigration and/or get the O or other extended visa. moral of the story:

"IF" i had my onward ticket (or rented one, per se) the immigration officer i believe would not of gone into her rant. there was a female supervisor sitting behind her i believe she was new and wanted to make "a" name for herself.

as i am not aware on a tourist visa if you leave there is a specified amount of time you need to stay out before coming back. then again thai immigration. like any nation's immigration can say, do whatever they want.

IF i had an onward ticket i believe i would not have had to listen to her lecture. just FYI.

Hi everyone.

A quick update.

If you can remember last week I put a post on about my Non O visa not coming in time, for my flight.

I took the advice from most of you and bought a onward ticket.

Got to check in with emirates wasn't asked for visa or onward ticket

Even though my return flight wasn't for 3 months.

I went to my local immigration office yesterday and got a 30 day extension, the very nice lady said you can come back and get another 60 day extension based on marriage, happy days.

I was about to leave the office and my phone pinged, haha sods law it was my visa, email.

So I showed the officer, no problem she said come back get another 60 extension, then leave Thailand and return to activate your visa, giving you another 90 days ,and then I could extend for another 60 days based on marriage.

And to top it off I could extended for 1 year, marriage or retirement.

Sounds a lot to take in but the officer made it easy.so it's looking like a short holiday to Cambodia in a few months 😀

Hi folks , applying for 60 day tourist visa in Australia .

On the application it asks for departure date from Thailand but I will apply for retirement visa after I have checked out a few beachside

Locations.

Someone previously said that the embassy don’t check departure dates so just put a false flight number but I don’t want my visa rejected if they do check flights

I know I could but a cheap ticket to Cambodia or somewhere but that’s just a waste of money.

Thanks for suggestions

I’m a UK national but I’m entering Thailand from the Phillipines- am I allowed to enter without a onward ticket booked? I might go to Bali next . I’m not planning to stay more than 30 days so I don’t need a visa.

Question: I'm in Thailand and going to travel to KL to process my non-imm F visa. I have a flight ticket BKK-KL-BKK. I don't have a flight ticket to then travel out of Thailand (as I am obtaining the non-imm F and once here the organization I work for will be process a long-permit to stay). Do you know if, in my case, do I still need to have an onward ticket out of the country?

If I'm coming in on a Non O or whatever with the intention of getting an extension based on retirement, will I have to show an return ticket both to get out of Australia and into Thailand?

Oz immigration let out without a return once because my passport is full of used visas but next trip will be on a new passport.
