Has anyone tried using an official balance letter from your bank as a replacement for an official statement?

I'm traveling to Taipei on Monday to apply, but found out today that my official monthly statement (for September) might not arrive until the end of next week.

For a Thai tourist visa, thaiembassy.org, under required documents, asks for "Evidence of Adequate Finance." Most everyone refers to a bank statement. Has anyone ever presented a brokerage account statement with sufficient X amount of dollars in stocks? My statement overview shows X in stocks and Y under (a small) cash balance. I can't imagine they look real closely.
