The deputy commander of immigration told the press this morning of the latest arrests in a long running crackdown to rid the country of over-stayers, people illegally entering on tourist visas, scammers, skimmers and Thais breaking the law by not reporting their whereabouts.

Four officers from the Ubon Ratchathani immigration office just came to my condo complex and is checking the foreign residents' passports. I'm here on a SETV with extension and plan on getting a new SETV in September. A few weeks ago, they visited my friend's house and checked her passport and work permit. A bit intimidating, but we just treated them with respect and answered their questions and they were on their way.
