Four officers from the Ubon Ratchathani immigration office just came to my condo complex and is checking the foreign residents' passports. I'm here on a SETV with extension and plan on getting a new SETV in September. A few weeks ago, they visited my friend's house and checked her passport and work permit. A bit intimidating, but we just treated them with respect and answered their questions and they were on their way.

TLDR : Answer Summary
In Ubon Ratchathani, immigration officers are conducting checks on foreign residents' passports as part of their routine job. A resident on a SETV with extension experienced a visit from the officers, noting that it can be intimidating but manageable with respect and cooperation. The community discussed the frequency of these checks, highlighting that such visits can happen to any visa holder, especially noted for certain visa types like the marriage visa, as indicated on government websites.

I've been here nearly 2 decades...came across several police on Sukhumvit Soi 11 the other night asking to see foreigners passports. I offered mine but they were not interested....mostly checking backpackers.

Just doing their job I think. Every visa holder living in Thailand can expect a visit anytime

EDIT: In fact it’s stated so on the government website in regards to some visas especially the marriage visa I think

My friend has been in Ubon about four years, and Bangkok about ten years before that and never had a visit before.

Never heard of that in Korat in 5 years. 15 years in BKK never either

I would guess all part of the Nationwide sweep looking for overstayers and those that have entered the country illegally. Watch for the news Friday. That's the day they release the league table of the weeks top overstayer.
