I know Taipei may have plans to go to the E-Visa system at the end of the year and heard Jakarta was transitioning at the end of November. But I have seen posts that walk in visa services are going to continue until the end of the year. Just want to confirm before booking travel to get a workcation dtv in December. Since it seems like once they go to the E-Visa system it takes much longer.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the availability of walk-in visa services for obtaining a DTV visa in December, as there are reports of a transition to an E-Visa system in Taipei and Jakarta. Comments confirm that Jakarta no longer accepts walk-in applications since November 26, 2024, and Laos will also stop this service by December 20, 2024, requiring online appointments. Other alternatives mentioned are Taipei and Yangon, which still allow some flexibility.

You wanna go get a DTV at a 'walk in consulate' you use Taipei

OR

you use Savannkhet in Lao (which requires you book an online appt to get in the gate and stops walk in service Dec 20th)

OR

you use Yangon in Burma (which also requires an online appt to get in the gate)

can you literally walk in without an appointment in Taipei?

yes i was there 4 weeks ago. Walked in at 9am, visa confirmed same afternoon 4pm, pick up of the passport the following day. I suggest you do it asap. Theres plenty posts here in the group who did in in Taipei which gives you an idea what to bring. Dont rely whats written on their website, i suggest you over deliver.

Yep

Taipei is a "walk up" consulate <- meaning there is no appt that needs to be booked to get in the gate, you show up in the morning during the application acceptance time and apply

You are confused

There are two Thai Consulates in Lao and Vientiane is booked up

BUT

The one in Savannakhet has openings for appts to get in the gate,

Here's openings on Dec 11th and 12th 🙂

There are appts at Savannakhet Friday the 29th, Friday the 6th and Tues / Wed the 11th and 12th open

is a walk in better because approval is faster? I'm wondering why anyone would prefer a walk in versus online...?

@Sammy ****
Taipei is the fastest for approval. Same day approval, next day pick up.

Jakarta is already ON the eVisa website and no longer accepts walk in applications (Since Tuesday the 26th)
