Are there official announcements that they won’t grant DTVs in the near future?

TLDR : Answer Summary
There are no official announcements indicating that the issuance of Destination Thailand Visas (DTV) will cease; in fact, there are indications of expanding the program significantly in the near future. Official sources report that the DTV program has succeeded, with plans to issue one million more visas within the next 12 months. However, the situation in Thailand is known to be unpredictable, and some speculate that rumors of a halt in DTV issuance may stem from agents seeking to meet year-end targets. Overall, the future of DTV issuance appears positive, but the unpredictability of Thai immigration policies remains a concern.

Officially it has been deemed a huge success and they are looking to get 1 million more issued in the next 12 months. Embassies around the world are getting extra staff and overtime has been approved for all. Additionally, all DTV holders can have a bank account, just show your passport and the branch manager will personally open an account straight away. Finally all DTV holders will also be allowed to use fast track at all airports to ensure they feel super special. Next year possibly free massages once a week and a free round of golf per month for those that wish to partake. The benefits will keep coming, they know they have a winner 😉

ConfidentHummingbird1628 Exactly. I understand why some posters wish to remain anonymous when talking about their own situation. When it is general info and no sources cited I just trust it as junk. Same bracket as "Someone told me" or "I heard".

It’s the retirement visa that will have big changes soon.

Anonymous participant 790 immigration don’t think majority of pensioners are worth having in Thailand. I think Malaysia done the same 2 years ago for the same reason totally changed the goalposts. Hopefully doesn’t happen here but the 800k will most likely be doubled.

retirement requires 800k, DTV requires 500k. DTV it doesn't need to be money in Thailand but for many countries you don't need money in Thailand for retirement either, just an embassy letter confirming you are good for it.

Mr 5 Bank Accounts Per year. Retirement 800k per year. DtV 500k per 5 years. You need proof of 65k per month.

You need 800k on a Thai bank period, or 65k per year after the first year. Not both

I’m happy if it’s just a rumour 😅

I keep on hearing that it’s better to apply DTV the soonest. Why is that the case?

ConfidentHummingbird1628 Because its expected to be scrapped and the rules are getting tighter.

would be interested in sources for "its expected to be scrapped". I would not be surprised if they further tighten up the requirements for it; I would be surprised if it were scrapped entirely. I would be astounded if they cancelled existing visas.

Mr 5 Bank Accounts The government that introduced it as a troll has been disposed. The person behind it has been jailed. He has also just been hit with ฿18 billion baht in tax fraud. They've already reversed his legalisation of poker and his alcohol laws. The incoming government have been cracking down on digital nomads for years. They've had a massive crack down on foreign businesses for over 2 years.

ConfidentHummingbird1628 we know it's still possible and relatively easy to get the DTV right now. But that could change in the future. It is already hard*er* than it used to be, consulates are asking for more documentation, longer funds seasoning, and rejecting for short courses or appointments where previously they granted visas.

Plus the current government is in general perceived to be more strict on visa issues. The "crackdown" on visa exempt is part of that, and doesn't affect DTV directly, but it is part of general orientation.

So the thought is, if you want one, why not apply now when you know it's still there and what the requirements are, vs an uncertain future.

If they do further tighten up (very likely IMO), or even stop the visa (less likely IMO), current holders are unlikely to be affected. It's a five year multi-entry visa and if they do want to curtail it, they will more likely just tighten/stop new issuances, very unlikely they will cancel already issued visas. This is the pattern in the past, any time they tighten up or stop, the visa in your passport remains good until expiry.

ConfidentHummingbird1628 this advice is for people who have been abusing the visa exempt entry and extensions, doesnt necessarily apply for everyone

ConfidentHummingbird1628 people using repeated visa exempts to live in Thailand. They are cracking down on that but it could have collateral damage to the likes of offshore workers who work on-off and take their off in Thailand, snowbirds who don't live here but do spend a significant amount of time over winter, people living in neighbouring countries that visit frequently for shopping or many short weekends, etc.

Plus it's indicative of a general attitude. These sorts of crackdowns often have impacts beyond the intended target. For now, nothing has changed with the DTV. But I would not be surprised if a government that cracks down on one immigration class looks at another.
