Will leaving Thailand for a holiday with a Non O visa make my visa null and void?

Thank you to everyone who helped me navigate round the web site to obtain my 90 day Non O visa.

My next silly question is. If I leave Thailand to take my wife on holiday during the new year period. Will this make my Non O visa null and void when I return from holiday, and if so will my visa revert back to a tourist visa. We plan to visit Bali but as yet no bookings have been made apparent from a hotel reservation, but this can be cancelled at any time with no charge. There is a chance I can do the bank account before I leave for Bali, but I’ve only got 5 days to complete the account application before I leave for Bali

Is this doable or do I need to make other arrangements for a holiday within Thailand.

TIA for any help and advice

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring whether leaving Thailand on a holiday with a Non O visa will invalidate their visa upon return. They are considering a trip to Bali and are concerned about requirements for opening a bank account and ensuring the correct funds are in place for a future visa extension. Community responses highlight the need for a re-entry permit to maintain the visa status and advise on banking procedures necessary for the extension.

If you’re going to transfer your funds via Wise (which I highly recommend for best results!), then I suggest going for Kasikorn. All my transfers to this bank are instantaneous even on weekends while transfers to others rarely are and may even take days.

You would need to purchase a re-entry permit if you want to leave without your entry stamp being cancelled. But you need to make sure you get your bank account opened and funded with the required money within your first month, because if you don't then you will not have enough time to apply for the 1-year extension. The money must be in your account already for 2 full months at the time you apply. Since you'll only have 90 days, that means if you don't get the money in place in the first month, you can't apply for the extension.

“ purchase a re entry permit” …. Where do u do this … at airport on your way out…. If so where at airport… b4 immigration or b4 I check in ( check in at Bangkok is automated now I think) .

At BKK the re-entry permit desk is in International Departures 2 after security but before Immigration

thank you. Do you know if there is an office DMK as I’ll probably flying from there, as it’s only 15 mins from our house
Graham ******
Yes there is but it is after Immigration so when stamping out you tell them you need a re-entry permit and they will direct you where to go

yes there is. But it's a little different there. You have to get stamped out or go through the automated exit gate first, and then loop back around to the re-entry desk. Just ask an immigration officer if you need assistance on locating it.

thank you. I have no intention of applying for a 1 year extension at this time. My plan is to open an account in advance of my planned retirement date. So that I can start transferring my savings into an account. So that hopefully I’ll have my 800,000 THB in the account at the time of my official retirement date. So that I will not have to wait for the recommended time period that my money has to be in an account to apply for my retirement visa.

Hope that makes sense

check to make sure that if you don’t get the one year extension, they’ll let you keep your bank account. They may lock it.

No, they won't. Who told you that?

yes it make sense...u need a re entry permit to keep your 90days nonO alive when coming back to thailand .....having a bank acct will be easier when u are ready for retirement .....just travel to thailand on visa exempt and apply for the 90days nonO in thailand

what you say makes sense but doesn't match reality. If when you decide to retire to Thailand you get another Non-O visa in your home country before arrival then you show funds in your home country for that 90 day visa, you can also apply for the 90 day Non-O visa inside Thailand with proof of funds. Whichever way round you do it when you are down to 30 days or less on that visa you would apply for a 12 month extension of stay based on retirement (this is not a visa)

It's totally ok the way he's thinking. If he return back home after he opened a bank account in Thailand and over time transfer a total of 800k into his account, then when he's back in Thailand when he's retired,he basically just has to kill time until the 1 year extension. He already has the money needed in the bank, and it's smarter to apply for the Non-O back home instead of doing it in Thailand. It's only one visit to immigration.

thank you. I thought it was a good idea, but need to make sure.

You need an official address when applying for a bank account.A hotel address doesn't work anymore. Some banks wants proof of having at least a 1 year contract. It differs between banks and branches. Go for Bangkok Bank, Kasikorn Bank or SCB.

thank you. I’m going to try SCB first. If unsuccessful, Kasikorn and so on

it makes sense. Arrive on a 90-days Non-Imm-O visa, you get stamped in for a 90-days stay permit. Get the bank account opened. Then actually you can holiday outside of Thailand. You can theoretically buy a single re-entry permit for 1000 THB for the intial 90-days stay permit as this would keep these 90 days alive, yet it would only make sense if your plans include more days in Thailand until this 90 days stay permit expires. If you like to stay longer, then just exit Thailand, do your holidays abroad and re-enter Thailand visa exempt, which would get you a 60-days stay permit. For this visa-exempt entry I would make sure I got the three famous proofs at hand in case I get questioned at the entry point (onward travel, cash 20,000 THB and proof of acomodation)
