Renewing drivers licence soon in Chiang Mai. Have 2 year temp. Now with my DTV will I be given 5 year?

Anyone done it recently?

Everywhere it seems is that only giving 2 years now to DTV. I only question is… is that still a Provisional license then?

Tell them you wanna apply for the international drivers permit at the same time. Then they are in a catch 22 because you need the 5 year for that.

I renewed both my licenses in December on my dtv in chiang mai. I was given 5 years for both.

I got 5yr last year on DTV but had to go to BKK for it as Pattaya or Rayong not possible might be a case of finding a DMT somewhere nearby that’ll do it

I did it 2 days ago in chiang mai and got the 5 year license. Bring a copy of the DTV they will ask for it.

You should get another 2 years, but some places still issue 5 years as they don't realise a DTV is a tourist visa

In Chiang Mai you should yes.

Up to just a couple months ago cm was giving 5 to dtv holders. They also did to me on a DTV but almost 2 years ago now.

what is involved to get the licence sef, my international licence costs 56 dollars every year so might be worth me getting a Thai license.

For comparison a 5 year Australian drivers license is 220 dollars

resident paper from immigration, medical check usual visa passport copies.

International no road test, not sure if that skips the multiple choice theory these days, it used to but it changes.

Then colour blind test, depth perception and reaction.

Worth doing.

Yeah you got lucky. When I went, there were signs at the foreigner counter that specifically state which visa types can get the 5 year license. DTV is not on the list.

Unfortunately is DTV considered as tourist visa so you will get only 2 years. I just did it recently.

IndigoGrape5836 5 years the rules say it requires a non immigrant visa. I haven't done it recently as I have a 5 year, but I've seen reports of people in CHiang Mai getting 2 years with a DTV.

Yeah I know end of last year they were, thought I read that stopped though. Specifically seen 2 posts saying they got 2 years and Chiang Mai DLT, could be bs though. I'm not up for renewal until. 2029 so no 1st hand knowladge.
