TLDR : Answer Summary
The consensus among users suggests that if your flight from BKK to HKT is booked separately, it's unlikely you will catch the 6:00 PM flight due to the time required for immigration and baggage claim, which can take at least an hour. It's recommended to opt for a later flight, ideally after allowing for a minimum of 2-3 hours after your arrival time to avoid unnecessary stress.

Gee, you like to take chances...check in closes 45 mins prior to departure.

I would peronally allow 3 hours after arrival..no need to fret..

I have missed flights because of delays leaving Australia but the lost fare was about $50. Not a real issue..

Why stress rushing about. Get the second flight and have a chill and a cold beer from the 7-11 before the next flight.

Separate booking you will not make it. Same ticket transit yes you be ok

I love your optimism that the next flight will wait and the pilot knows. Planes have a time slot to take off in and they are obliged to make it. Plus you are hoping that the baggage handlers will get your baggage off one plane and onto another in that time slot. They have hundreds of bags to move and yours could be the last one off. When you are sold a connecting flight ticket double check that the time between flights is doable. I was just "debating" with an agent that although his computer said there was a connecting fight out of Vienna I didn't think I could get off a plane, find another gate and board a plane in 25 mins!!!!

they have an hour not 25 minutes. No one be stupid and work on 25 minutes. And luggage for forward flights go into different transport containers so its quick movement

have you never booked a ticket with transit ? I do it every month. Perth Singapore Bangkok get of in Singapore and just walk to next gate, when you book sister airlines they stuff up and are late for next flight they fix it. Its done every where in the world

Really ? Why take the chance of missing it when there is a 7PM flight.

the connecting aircraft will be advised or know you are inbounding and will try their best to accommodate you.

@Ben ********
correct. And they are responsible to get you on another flight if they arrive late and you do miss the connection

@John *********
if its transit there is no risk as the plane will wait

If it’s not booked as the same ticket it means you’ll do immigration and bag collecting in Bangkok. You’d need to allow an hour for that. Might be less but it could take that long depending on how many flights land right before yours.
