(US citizen) Wondering if i'll possibly have issues getting to thailand

I was in thailand for 86 days with visa extended from march till june 5th and have since been in malaysia.

My friends have planned a 4 day trip to krabi and I'm going but have only booked one way as im unsure if i'd like to go to somewhere like koh lipe or langkawi. Even though this trip wont last more than 10 days im wondering if I realistically could have problems and need to book a way out.

Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A US citizen returning to Thailand after a previous 86-day stay is concerned about potential immigration issues due to the length of their last visit. Various community responses suggest that while there is no official limit on the number of entries, the length of stay and lack of an onward ticket could raise red flags with immigration officers. To minimize the risk of denial of entry, it is recommended to have proof of funds, accommodation, and an onward ticket. Recent discussions indicate that immigration checks have become stricter, with some travelers being questioned or even deported for not having an onward travel plan.

yes you may have trouble as they have tightened entries. Agree with

. Always maintain you are a tourist when questioned

I’ve always travelled in and out in the past, “never showing an exit date” . Often I’d just go with the flow and book a ticket the week before I wanted to leave..

possibly things may have changed with this new entry form you fill out before arrival

There’s always the chance of problems especially as you are going back so soon. If you do get questioned then the lack of onward travel could give them reason to deny entry. I would cover this in your situation.

Recently they have been strict.

People have been getting deported.

I was detained for 3 hours at BKK until we figured out a 'solution' ☕️

Definitely get an onward ticket, trip.com has good options with free cancellation.

And id recomend doing VIP entry as well, less questions are asked, if any. Almost guarantees you entry. Some visa agencies offer this. I can send you a contact if you dm me.

Recommend an onward ticket, buy one that's refundable or can be amended

I think if you have a record over many years of short visits there isn't a problem ...I've never been asked at immigration for proof of onward flight /trip . Often take about 4-6 short trips each year . However ,some airlines now ask for proof of onward trip .....so I don't fly with them, though it seems pretty arbitrary often depends on the check in clerk

definitely alot stricter than before, hear of many being refused as no visa

There is no official limit on border entrances via air land or sea

With saying that you might run into an I/O having a bad day

Haters will argue with me but can’t show me any documentation on entrance limits

Possibly. I was questioned a few months ago and didn’t (first time I can remember being questioned). I had quite a bit of money on me but had to sign a waiver promising to leave. Next time I go, if on a tourist or visa-exempt, I’ll definitely have a ticket.

No one can say for sure as it’s up to the individual immigration officer you hand your passport to. But 86 days this year plus wanting more isn’t a typical tourist thing and may certainly raise red flags.

To CYA have the three proofs that they may ask for.

1. 20,000 baht (or equivalent) in cash.

2. Proof of accommodation (for the first few days at least)

3. A ticket out of Thailand within the 60 days allowed (you’d probably get away with 90 but your airline may cause issues).
