Will I have issues flying out of Thailand during my education visa's extension period?

Good afternoon all

I have an education visa and I’m due to do my 90 day check in on September 30th, where I’m granted a 15 day extension then have to return again to get the additional 75 days.

My query is that I’m flying out of Thailand back to the UK on October the 8th, so during the 15 day extension period, will I have any issues flying out of Thailand back to the UK?

Thanks in advance🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
The question involves an educational visa holder concerned about flying back to the UK during a 15-day extension following a 90-day check-in. The responses highlight confusion over the visa process, indicating that a 90-day report is separate from visa extensions and cautioning about potential overstays.

you are trying to play the system, I suspect it won't end well. You're applying for an extension which must also be cancelled before you leave the country. If you don't cancel it I guess you will be on overstay until you do and will have to pay the fine at a later date. Seems to me it would be a lot simpler to cancel it by the 30th and do a quick border bounce to get the days you require

I’m really not trying to play any systems mate, I’m just trying to get home to my mum who’s had an accident🤔

Sorry about your mum, but if you need to get there then the 8th October is over a month away. Why not just book a flight, cancel your visa extension and go see her?

coz my brother is coming out here for a month and flies back on the 8th October, it’s not like super super urgent like she’s not gonna die, but I thought I’d just book the same flight as him, then I realised the 8th falls in my 15 day extension period…

so my original comment was correct

Christ you’re an arse aren’t you, I’m literally just trying to go home I’m not looking for any loopholes or trying to play the system, what’s your deal man?

@Stefan *********
no. Your trying to extend your time here to fit your chosen itinerary. I've told you how to do it. Cancel your ED extension then do a quick border bounce to get the days you require

okay so let me explain again, any time before the 30th of September I need to go to immigration, pay 1900 baht, and then I’m granted a further 90 days, but split into two visits, the first visit where I make the payment and hand over documents, and the second where I get the longer stamp. All I wanna do is pay the money and get my 15 days stamp like I usually would, the only caveat is I want to fly out of Thailand during that 15 day window, I’m paying the money, I don’t see how I’m trying to play the system, you don’t even know the rules, they will probably just let me fly back to the UK with no hassle and void the rest of my ED visa which I don’t care about anyway coz I won’t be coming back to Thailand for a long time…

and I'm going to say again that part of the application involves signing a form that says you will inform them of any changes to your situation. That means you have to let them know when you stop studying and that is then the day your extension finishes. If you don't cancel your extension you end up being treated as if you overstayed and likely find as such if you ever interact with Thai immigration again, even though you have left the country so it's a "technical" overstay due to not cancelling the extension.

okay so I pay the 1900 and get the 15 day stamp

and then I cancel my visa right before I leave

you aren't on a visa at that point you are on an extension of stay. I've absolutely no idea how they would react to you cancelling an extension during the under consideration period. I guess you could try as long as you have documentation from your school stating your last day of study.

so you are capable of providing useful info without being a total knob👏

Thank you though, but seriously there’s no need to be passive aggressive and make assumptions if your genuinely intent is to provide information and help

This post doesn't make any sense. A 90 day report has NOTHING to do with an extension, and there's no such thing as a 15 day extension.

when you do your 90 day extensions for the education visa they give you a temporary 15 day extension for them to process the paperwork and then they stamp the remaining 75 thereafter, I can send you pics of my stamps from last time if you want?

You said "90 day check-in" which is what people call a 90 day report.

You should have said you were going to do your 90 day extension.

The 15 days is called the "under consideration" period.

In many places you can apply for an extension when you have 45 days or less left. So that might be one option for you. At all offices you can apply when you have 30 days or less left.

You would need to check with immigration about whether you can leave during your under consideration period. If they say yes, you will need to purchase a re-entry permit so your extension is not cancelled when you leave Thailand.

I’ll be leaving Thailand for a while, probably won’t be back till Feb or March by which point my education visa would’ve expired anyway.

So in this case I just need to confirm with an immigration officer whether it’s okay for me to leave the kingdom during my “under consideration” period.

Think is my flight is already booked for the 8th of October, what if they say I can’t leave the country?

@Stefan *********
then you'd lose the extension by leaving. But if you can apply early enough to get it all done before you leave then it wouldn't be an issue at all.

Sometimes you can also tell them you need to leave and ask if the period can be shortened, but that will be up to their discretion.

I don’t care about the extension, I just wanna pay the 1900 which gives me 15 days from September 30th, and I wanna get on my flight on the 8th of October, is this possible?

nothing will stop you from getting on your flight.
