Hello, I go to Thailand 16th september and I didnt notice they changed entries to Thailand from 60 days to 30 days like a week ago. I go there for 2 months and I dont know if they let me to plane. Should I try to make e-visa now or its too late? Any options what I can do now? I want to get visa on immigration but Im worried if they even let me to board to plane.
Answer summary
A user is concerned about the recent change in Thailand's entry policy, which has reduced the visa-free stay from 60 days to 30 days. They plan to visit for two months and are unsure if they will be allowed to board their flight on September 16. Community responses suggest that they can either confirm their airline's policies regarding onward tickets, purchase a cheap onward flight to a nearby country as proof of departure, or apply for an e-Visa if time permits. Once in Thailand, they can extend their stay for an additional 30 days at an immigration office.

Book a cheap onward ticket to anywhere out of Thailand, maybe Vietnam. Either use it or don't. At least your airline will allow you to travel. And apply for visa as backup

A mate is in the the same situation. He says the travel agent 'assured' him he will be OK... The rule is, you must a visa for your whole stay according to your ticket. But under the circumstances... The 'should' let him board?

As a backup plan there's bestonwardticket.com for a throwaway ticket should they stop him.

Just done the 60 day and it took 1 day, so long as the documents you upload are in good format. So you’ll be fine.

They will let you enter - probably write on passport it’s 30 days then you go to immigration before it expires and pay ฿1900 to get it renewed for another 30 days

You just need to prove that you have a confirmed way out of Thailand on the 29th day or something. Cheap ticket to neighboring country or something. This eas my oldest consulate info long time ago when they took the time to explain onward and return ticket. Nobody can tell what the airline will decide but chances might be higher if you can prove to have a plan to leave on time

I just went through this boarding in 9 days bought my flight ticket in advance for a 60 day stay and i contacted the Royal Thai Embassyhere is her reply....It may possibly not be out in time before you travel, in which case you can still enter visa free. It takes a minimum of 10 working days but there is not set date I can give

After several similar questions, I wonder how many people will be caught out by these changes. People often book tickets well in advance and check the entry requirements at that time - I doubt many tourists check them again unless they are aware that things could change. I doubt that vast majority of tourists visit groups like this when they are simply going on holiday so its likely that many will be unaware that their entry allowance has been reduced.

Maybe I should but I rarely check how long I'm stamped in for - pretty sure others will do that too. Tourists may be too excited to have arrived in their ‘dream destination’ to check. So, let's say someone books their flights according to the previous 60 days exempt stay, is allowed to board by the airline and not questioned by immigration on entry. Should that happen, its possible that the first time they become aware of their 30 day stamp is when they arrive at airport immigration on departure. I wonder how sympathetic immigration will be about their overstay?

You could "try" and buy one of these "semi fake" onward tickets for around £7 which I have had in the past.....as it turned out on the 3 times I got through UK check in (on one way tickets) I wasn't asked by ground handling for anything......however in April 2025 for the first time ever I was asked at Suvarnabhumbi.....I had it screenshotted but it was a moment of concern lol but was accepted without comment......what I would say and only my thoughts is these onward tickets (real or otherwise) are going to be very carefully examined at check ins from the 14th onwards

It took me a few days to get evisa (at Los Angeles consulate). I did need to update info a few times….confirmation of hotel instead of the email I had, proof of where I was (utility bill) and then several try’s for picture. First was selfie that they said “not self take” then new passport photo that was also rejected. Finally another selfie with AI changing background to solid white and then photoshopped to correct size.

A bit of work but at least I will not get hassled at the airport for return past 30 days.

Thai immigration data shows most tourists (90%) stays less than 30 days, Make sure you can show or explain why you are staying here for 2 months if you do get pulled out.

Make evisa now. If it comes through in time, you've solved your problem. If you stop and think about it for too long, you'll lose that option.

Nobody actually knows what will happen on the 15th. We'll all have a much better idea as stories come through on that day. Whenever changes like this come through it's reasonable to expect a bit of confusion

Meanwhile, hope for the best but prepare for the worst.

Tomáš Zachar just call your Airline, because it´s up to them, they let you board or not. If not.... you just need a onward bus or trainticket out of Thailand ( cheapest way ) so all should be good

You can try for a visa but there is very little time.

Just enter on the 30 day visa exemption then extend by 30 days at an immigration office.
Lee *******

You can still go visa exempt for 30 days and extend it once for another 30 days at your local immigration.

It would be very rare because any visa exempt entry into Thailand is extendable and the airlines are aware of that!

Lee Wells best maybe go to the airport .if they won't let you board . Go online book a ticket to Malaysia in that 30 day period . Then back to desk show them

No, officially you need a onward ticket within the duration of your allowable stay (30 days in this case) as a extension isn’t automatically granted or guaranteed.

Therefore airlines can enforce this onward ticket ruling as they are financially responsible in case the passenger is refused entry.

It usually takes 2–3 days to issue an e-Visa but I’m not sure about your local embassy. I suggest checking and applying for the e-Visa. With a 30-day entry you can also get a 30-day extension, but why go through all that trouble? It’s better to just go for the e-Visa.

Tomáš Zachar Your main issue is initially with your airline rather than Thai Immigration. Maybe you need to buy an onward ticket to a nearby country as plan A, if you do not have a return flight booked at present? If you can get to Thailand and enter under the 30 day visa exemption without a tourist visa, you could then visit Immigration to extend for a further 30 days from within Thailand.

Tomáš Zachar They are busy now, for obvious reasons, so it’s taking longer than normal.

The change actually happens on the 15th. Best to check with your airline if they will let you board or if you will need a ticket out within the 30 days. If the latter you can just by a cheap ticket to a nearby country. When you arrive in Thailand you'll get stamped in for 30 days and can purchase a 30 day extension at the local immigration office that serves the area where you will stay

I sent mail to them and they said that they cant confirm if they let me board. So I can just buy ticket to another country as proof that I will leave country within 30 days and then just go to immigration to extend my stay?
Greg ***********
Greg ***********
Tomáš Zachar it depends on the check-in crew if they let you board or not. Sometimes the crews tolerate an onward travel outside of the stamped stay permit duration. Better do NOT rely on it and get yourself a cheap one-way Ticket from, for example, Hat Yai to Kuala Lumpur with Air Asia. This would be the perfect onward travel proof. WARNING: if Immigration detects a FAKE-onwardticket, they can deny entry because they regard it as an attempt to fraud
