If I used up all of my visa exemptions by land and air in 2024, do I get a reset for the new year and be able to re-enter Thailand on a visa exemption in 2025 without having to apply for a Tourist Visa?

TLDR : Answer Summary
If you've used all your visa exemptions for entering Thailand in 2024, there's no guaranteed reset for 2025. Current regulations indicate that in 2025, your entry will be assessed based on your entry history by the immigration officer, regardless of whether you entered by land or air. There have been no recent limits on visa-exempt entries, but it is advisable to have an exit ticket and adequate funds upon your arrival to avoid any issues.

Not sure how you can use up all exemptions by air if there is no limit, but okay. The limit by land applied until July.

According to a few sources, the land limit has been reinstated by January 1st. But indeed, a new calendar year resets it.

If your flying in to Suvarnabhumi airport you will be questioned without a doubt then it will be referred to a Senior IO to decide your fate. Go smartly dressed be polite and smile …. May luck be on your side πŸ™

I'm flying from Kuala Lumpur directly to Chiang Mai. I'm always dressed business casual or relaxed preppy style. when I travel.

I agree I had first hand experience of being refused until I pleaded with to Senior IO and he agreed to give me 30 days now I have an official retirement visa but that occasion was scary

Chiang Mai is much more farang friendly so you should be okay

Reason why Survanabhumi is so strict they start a lot of Rookie officers there to do training and they are keen as mustard (you can distinguish them because Most of them have 1 strip on their epaulette

all three of the bigger airports here (BKK, DMK and CNX) are getting hard as nails on people milking 60 day free stamp entries to stay here long term.

They don't care what your reasoning is, they just look at your previous entry/stay history is, (and they can see that going back 15 years now)

Many MANY people (as in over a 1000 just between the two bangkok airports) are denied every week (which is really a tiny number of people compared to arrivals πŸ˜‰ )

Chiang Mai has been supremely accommodating to me so far, but I don't want to push my luck.

Make sure you also have a ticket out of the country, and 20,000 baht or equivalent in cash.

Don’t give the IO any more reasons for denial

It has been mentioned here countless times. There are no rules. In my opinion if you spent more than 4 months last year on visa exemptions there is no guarantee that you will be allowed in.

At least do yourself a favor and enter by land, so in case you get denied you can at least walk back to the country you came from, whereas if you get denied at the airport the process is more complicated

Good Luck with your recent history of staying in Thailand.

That "maximum two times by land for visa-exempt entry" rule has not been applied for current 60-day visa-exempt entries since last July. So there is no "use up" or "reset" now. Your next entry to Thailand, regardless of whether it is through a land border or by air, will be considered by the officer who handles your entry at passport control at the entry point. Be ready for the worst scenario if you have an extensive history travelling in Thailand on a tourist status.

So it's a wild card?

be careful , and you are at great risk of being DENIED ENTRY with your recent Thai Immigration history.

Do not fly.

Where are you now?

And if you are a digital nomad, Suggest you look at getting the DTV Visa. It's a 5 Year multiple entry visa.

Since I entered multiple times last year (2xs by land border bounce at Laos) and 2xs by air from Malaysia without a visa under the Visa Exemption Program, you're advising against applying for a Tourist Visa?
James ********
@Kim *********
having a Thai Tourist Visa will not guarantee you will be able to enter Thailand.

It's totally up to the Thai Immigration Officer who greets you on your arrival.

Frankly speaking, I think you are at significant risk of being questioned on arrival with possible entry DENIED.

Clearly you are not a Tourist in Thailand with your recent Thai Immigration history.

DO NOT 🚫 FLY into Thailand. Land Border crossing entries into Thailand are safer due to your recent history of staying in Thailand.

IF you choose to fly.. then make arrangements with a FAST TRACK SERVICE which will guarantee your entry into Thailand. Google Fast Track Service Company for Bangkok Thailand if flying into Bangkok. Or Phuket.

How do you suggest traveling from Kuala Lumpur to Chiang Mai? I can't fly direct from KUL to CNX?

The Fast Track Service is for Bangkok and Phuket. Do they have services for Chiang Mai? I'm trying to get a direct flight from KUL into Chiang Mai.

If I'm in Kuala Lumpur, how do you suggest entering by land? I need to get back to Chiang Mai. I have a condo lease with all my belongings there. My phone was stolen in KL. Before selling it, they reset the phone which locked out of all of my email accounts (both Yahoo and Gmail), apps and bank accounts and I don't remember the passwords. I tried calling Yahoo Recovery Support many times to recover the email by providing verification info but each time I got close, I got rejected by "the system." My only chance is to find the notebook where I have it handwritten a new password because I often change it and will temporarily write it down somewhere. What is Fast Track Service? Can I do this for Chiang Mai?

, only the officer at passport control who will handle your entry can answer to your question correctly.

I'm in Kuala Lumpur right now and just gathered all the documents I need (flight into Thailand and onward flight ticket from CNX to SGN). I was literally about to get online and apply for a Tourist Visa after I have already done 2 border bounces to Laos by bus and 2 trips to Kuala Lumpur and stayed a few nights without TR visa at the Kuala Lumpur Thai Embassy. Please advise. Someone told me they've seen people get by doing TR visas many times.
