Will having a 10-digit and 9-digit passport number cause issues at border control?

DTV Visa Success - Germany, Munich:

The process took about 9 days, including weekends and a public holiday. I applied for a new passport / express 1 day before so i uploaded a "pre-passport" document, but it was rejected twice. After explaining to the embassy, I later uploaded my actual passport, and the visa was issued the next day.

Question: My passport has 10 digits (bottom left) but 9 digits (top right). The german passport office said this is normal. Could this cause issues at border control?

Good luck to everyone!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user successfully obtained a DTV Visa from Germany, experiencing a 9-day processing time. There was some confusion regarding their passport's digit count; specifically, their passport displays 10 digits at the bottom left and 9 digits at the top right. Comments from others confirmed that this discrepancy is normal and shouldn't cause issues at border control, advising to use the 9-digit number from the top right for official purposes.

This is the one you want. Always. Ignore the bottom row. ๐Ÿ™ƒ

i'm not an Immigration officer in Thailand, neither is anyone else in this group I assume.

Buuut, I would bet that it doesn't present a problem because it is still your passport number just with the added 'checksum' (a technical term you don't need to be concerned about).

Especially since it was issued by the Thai Embassy and they should know what they do. If you are overly worried just ask them again. ๐Ÿ™ƒ

Congrats on your success in getting your visa.

You use the passport number in the "passport number" field at the top of the bio-data page, one of 9 digits anytime you need your passport number. You may mean a 10-digit number with one "check digit". That's normal.

wouldn't be an issue, as I said, the extra one is a "check bit", not a part of actual passport number
