I have a question that I'm hoping someone can help me with. I am South African and there have been many new rules regarding south africans regarding non-b visas. We now need both a south african police clearance and a thai polive clearance. I have been here for several years, so for me to renew my non-b, I only need the thai police clearance. My problem is that I had an accident four years ago where a friend of mine died. there was no alcohol involved, however I got charged with dangerous driving. I also had a DUI six years ago. Apparently there is no possibility of getting it expunged. I have also learnt that it is a title 5 offence, a misdemeanour if you will. So my question is, will this hinder me in getting my visa renewed?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A South African expat seeks advice on whether a past DUI and a dangerous driving charge will affect his ability to renew his non-B visa in Thailand, given the new requirements for police clearances. Community feedback indicates that visa renewal procedures do not change significantly based on nationality, but urges direct communication with Thai immigration for clarity.

First off you can't ever renew a visa :O You either get a new yearly extension at the immigration office inside the country or you go to a thai consulate in another country and you buy a new visa.

There have NOT been ANY new rules governing how S/A passport holders get extensions of stays INSIDE the country. The requirements for them are the same as everyone else.

There have been a few consulates in other countries that will NOT issue visas to S/A passport holders BUT that's a policy that's implemented consulate by consulate and not uniform across S/E Asia.

I'd say you need to go talk to the immigration office where you get your extension of stays at.. OR if you usually buy visas from a thai consulate I'd say check their website for the requirements concerning S/A passport holders.
