Denied bank accounts in Thailand, what's going on?

Interesting development on Friday. Went to Kalasin Immigration for paperwork for drivers license. It came up in conversation that I had been denied at several banks to open a bank account. Head of Immigration had another look at my 5yr DTV and got quiet angry. He said no, this is a good visa. He got a pen and circled the 5 year part of the visa, wrote his phone number and name on the bottom and said, if the bank refuses tell them to call me πŸ˜ƒ. Looking forward to going to a bank tomorrow and see how it all plays out. Should be good for a laugh.
Answer summary
An expat reported being denied bank accounts in Thailand and shared their experience with local immigration regarding their 5-year DTV visa. The immigration officer confirmed that the visa is valid and offered assistance by providing their contact information for the banks. The conversation revealed some confusion and debate about visa types, their validity, and how they affect banking and immigration processes.

If you intend to allocate many months in Thailand albeit with a hop out....better to apply for a visa. Probably cheaper than short stays outside the LOS πŸ˜‰πŸ˜Š

It will clearly depend on whether they think you are a genuine tourist, and that will most likely be based on your previous history of visits....

The multi entry visa is valid for 180 days to allow you entry into Thailand you can leave enter as many times as you like as long as no more than 90 days so 60 +30 extension

You can re enter for as long as you like as long as no more than 90 days if you leave and re enter the day before or on the day of your visa expiry you will receive another 60 days which you can then extend for another 30 days in other words if you entered on day of issue done 90 days left returned same day you do not have wait 1 or 2 or 3 days before re entering you can do another 90 days depart return which will be your end date on visa for entry into Thailand then do another 60 + 30. 90 days which would be total 270 days. So on your last date of entry enter as close or on your visa expiry date for a further 60 + 30 extension enjoy your journey
