Any reason not to be able to get my stamp at Malaysian land border when re-entering on DTV? First renewal. Thanks for any helpful answers 🙂
Answer summary
The discussion revolves around the re-entry process into Thailand on a DTV (Thailand’s Digital Nomad Visa) and the uncertainties related to getting the necessary entry stamp at the Malaysian border. Several users express their concerns regarding recent changes in visa policies and the bureaucratic delays associated with gazetting new rules. Some comments reference the impact of a recently passed law reducing visa-free stays, potential difficulties in the immigration process, and the overall uncertain nature of Thai immigration as it can change rapidly. Additionally, users share their experiences and advice about how to navigate the current visa landscape.

The bill has passed cabinet & will be LAW 15 days after it is gazetted. As yet it has not been gazetted. Similar process to most countries.

Ulrik Hammarström Ive had doubt thrown on that by a moderator this morning.

If we go on the press release then yes. If we go on his opinion based on Thai ways then it could happen anytime. Am hoping a pow wow occurs within the group so advice can be consistent and effectively communicated so people and can best make decisions for themselves.

The lack of tourists is definitely taking a toll on the local businesses. I've heard from long-time expats that it's the quietest they've ever seen it, and I'm worried about the impact on the local economy.

I keep hearing this but find it hard to believe it's that bad. There were long lines at immigration at Suvarnabhumi, and the hotel I stayed at last week seemed to be fairly busy. The restaurant was almost full at breakfast, so I was lucky to get the last free table.

Unfortunately, the Thai Government is bureaucratic and there is oftentimes a delay or lag from when something is formally approved at an official Thai Cabinet Meeting to when something is actually in effect in the real world for everyday people

However, just like the UK Gazette (London Gazette), U.S. Federal Register, Federal Register of Legislation (Commonwealth of Australia Gazette), Journal officiel (de la République française), or even the Bundesanzeiger and Bundesgesetzblatt, there is usually a time period for any legal document to take legal and administrative effect (effective in the real world for everyday people), such as for Thailand's Royal Gazette as the Thai Interior Ministry Announcements (Notices) of the change from 60 Days ( ผ.60–ม.17 ) to 30 Days ( ผ.30 )

Dca Dca the key word here is usually. I've had doubt thrown on the 15 day theory which has been accepted and spread as truth. If that proves not to be true then people could get seriously caught out if Immigration doesn't take into consideration people need time to make alternative visa or travel arrangements.

Surya Llwynog The implementing phrase of Effective Date is in this Draft of Thai Interior Ministry Notice/Announcement for ผ.30 as Approved by the Thai Cabinet Meeting on 19 May 2026 this time around, unlike the previous Draft for ผ.60–ม.17 where it was left open–ended and signed by the the previous Thai PM at the very last minute

Dca Dca Thank you. Had time to properly look at everything you posted .

I think that's pretty clear.

Surprising the Moderator said he hadn't heard where the 15 day idea came from even if his cynicism of the Thai Govt means he doesn't put much faith in it.

Paul Thomas Its Thailand, it may get signed by the King and get published tomorrow or it may sit until next year. Even possible it could be completely recinded at the next cabinet meeting. That's the way things work here.

Luc De Clerck what does the death of a Princess have anything to do with ending 60 day visa exemption? The bureau has made it very clearly, it was to filter out those cheapskate charlies from very particular countries who got no moral quality and just bring troubles to locals. Member of Royal Kingdom has got nothing to do with such decision.
