Rocc Wall asked a question earlier, the post is still there to be seen but he’s turned off commenting, and I’m not surprised having read some of the answers to his question.

This gentleman was asking for help and advice to a perfectly legitimate question and most of the responses were from extremely ignorant people who wouldn’t dare to speak to this gentlemen as the have done if they were face to face.

The behaviour from some was disgusting, when someone asks for help either offer help or keep quiet.

I would encourage the Administrators of this group to view the post mentioned and try to prevent future rudeness and impoliteness towards a fellow member of this group.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion reflects concerns about the rudeness and impoliteness displayed in online expat groups, particularly those focused on Thailand. Members express disappointment over how fellow expats respond to legitimate questions, often with derogatory comments instead of helpful advice. Several participants advocate for more respectful communication and suggest that administrators take action against disruptive members. The conversation highlights the challenges of online interactions and the expectation of kindness in communities designed to provide support, especially for newcomers seeking information on visas and immigration.

I will always choose chaotic freedom of speech group over censorship one. I was one of the first to join this group (after getting banned from the bigger one). It was surely more pleasant went the group was much smaller, but it's still manageable. My main issue is not the rude comments, but the misinformation and lack of flexibility of some. Not every question has an obvious answer. If someone wants to use an agent, it's his/her decision, I will give an answer to the best of my knowledge. I always try to answer with the most value-ish answer, the practical one, rather than the morally superior one. Some get mad but to me, practicality is more important than moral standard when it comes to living in Thailand.

I find the nastiness spewed in this group exhausting. It is most definitely the most unpleasant group I’m in. However, I do also occasionally get good information, so I’m still here. I do wish the moderators booted the nasty people though.
Michael ********
You just have to filter it out, i thought steve mcarthey gave the best bit of advice.

But there were a lot of unknowns with the question also which could have been better stated

@Michael *******
If people needed clarification, they could ask. They did not need to be so rude. If people knew what all the different options and considerations would need to be, they would not be asking for advice.

Too sad, but so, so common online these days. I suffered online abuse in Thailand from long term expats for being stuck until I could get a repatriation flight. I was genuinely stuck and departed on the first flight that wasn't cancelled at the last minute. I don't understand the beef, we are all fellow travellers of the world, and we were all putting much needed money into the Kingdom's economy. So disappointed in people.
Alexis **********
Saddly it's always like that on travel groups ..and big community groups..always

People need realize that there are real people on the other side of the keyboard.

Some people just don’t respect others. Nor do I understand how someone are able to get mad at other people’s comments of someone’s post.
Rocc ******
@Ryan **********
I agree. I dont think I said anything to offend anyone. I m never going to post anything. I didnt realize there are so many assholes out there. Like what crawl up their butt and died?

@Rocc *****
if a comment is seriously rude, i report it to the admins and the comment is removed or the thread is closed. I don’t know if that happens in this group. Try it sometime because insults are usually against the rules of a decent group.
Ruth *******
@Janice **********
closing commenting doesn’t help the OP though. The person who made the nasty comments should be the one removed.
Janice ***********
@Ruth ******
well a temporary ban would help. I’m not in favour of cancelling people permanently, unless they are repeat offenders and are seriously aggressive. . But I agree with you. Something should be done
Alvin ******
Not that it matters much now, but this is pretty much the expectation from all but the most curated expat communities online. Just a bunch whiny bitter old men that didn’t get the memo that people don’t search on Google anymore.
Shea *******
@Alvin *****
what do you mean people don't search on google? Or any search browser. That comment makes me sad.
Alvin ******
@Shea ******
I was exaggerating for illustration purposes. There are still a couple of basic things you can ask Google, but for more complex questions, the algorithm is completely useless as it prioritizes pages “optimized” to be searched. Results have little regard for quality much less relevance. It’s always easier, more effective and way more entertaining to ask in a forum or group.
Steve *******
@Shea ******
honestly it’s more difficult to filter thru dated info posted on various websites than to confer with actual persons who have present knowledge of the facts and situations as they happen. The fact there is little to no standardization of said information between various Thai consulates is evidence of this.

😂 exactly. Misery definitely loves company. That’s why I stopped going to Thaivisa.com years ago.

I must say when I joined this group I was shocked at how rude people are for asking such simple questions, which is what this group is for. I don’t bother posting anything on this site anymore because of how rude and nasty some people on here are.😡
Rocc ******
@Marie *********
we are currently in Laos and I belong to Vientiane social. The expat community here are not nasty as the thailand expat community. Why all the negativity and the hate here?? Dont get me wrong. I am not saying all. They should have some respect for people and treat everyone with kindness. I thought this board is for people that have questions that need some answers or guidance. Someome had mentioned that I should google for answers. Thanks genius!! Googling for answers is not the same as getting an advise from someone whose been through it.
Scott *******
I made one post here about my quarantine room filling up with paint fumes and advised people to avoid that particular hotel and I got tons of hateful comments. People calling me a bitch, a pussy, etc etc. Seems like there are lots of assholes in this group. Also lots of helpful people though lol.
Tom *******
Scott Evans you just described all of social media. There are tons of hateful comments, people calling others a bitch, a pussy, etc etc, and there are lots of assholes in every group on the internet. Sadly it‘s just part of the online experience. It’s just too easy for people to be rude when they are not face to face with the person they’re communicating with. Social media should rightly be termed, “antisocial media”.
Rocc ******
@Scott ******
yeah i remember reading about that. They were nasty to you.
Geoff ***********
There are good people here with legitimate experience who will give accurate advice.

The rest is unimportant if you get what you require 👍🏻

That was well put. People dont have to be nasty to each other. And I dont think I said anything that would offend anyone. I learnt my lesson. I will just keep quiet. And read the board only.

Dont let the swines dicatate what you do or dont do. They have been called out so many times and the truth of their existence, a bit too much for them to take. Sadly they return with vengeance until the next smack puts hardened tail between legs for decency to be restored again....muppets!

, check out YouTube for the help you are looking for. There are some that actually advise others on relocating to foreign countries. This person has a lot of pretty cool vids and might be able to give you some direction. Don’t pay any mind to these old men looking for love in all the wrong places!!!! Good luck in moving your family to a wonderful world destination!!!!

, don’t let them put you off, the members are better than the ones who responded negatively, just block them.

If anyone answers google it or gives rude answers they should be removed by admin straight away.

that's right what's the point of the group if everyone leads anyone with a question to Google lol . Who needs a gymnasium when facebook them muscles they never knew they had !
Steve *******
Take the opportunity during these moments to block every single one of them.

I literally block two or three people for every one I respond or reply to just for the sheer fact that I don’t have the time to even check a notification from some idiot that has nothing else to do but to post something negative or derogatory.
