There seems to be a lot of profiles on many Thailand tourist and expat pages and groups asking for pictures of visa exemption stamps, I am not sure if there is anything sinister happening, but I would be interested in knowing why anyone would need a picture of the visa.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around a growing trend in Thailand's expat and tourist groups where individuals request photos of visa exemption stamps. Commenters suggest this is primarily to help others understand the meaning of their visa stamps, as many users lack knowledge in this area. However, some express skepticism about the necessity of these requests. Others emphasize the importance of privacy when sharing images, recommending that identifiable information be blurred and that photos be sent only to trusted entities to prevent misuse.

While we can't speak for other groups, in our communities, we prioritize privacy by blurring out any identifiable information on visa stamps, such as:

- Passport number

- Signature

- Visa number

When we work with clients, we do request photos of visa stamps to accurately assess the services we can provide and the associated costs.

If you need to share uncensored images, ensure they are sent only to trusted companies and avoid posting them publicly without proper censorship.

Many are not aware but some passports include their passport number on all pages, and some visa stamps also include identifiable information.

Mostly so they can understand how to respond. You'd be amazed at the number of people who have no clue what the stamp in their passport means

Exactly. Most people don’t have a clue about the proper name of the stamp they have and then it’s required to see the stamp so we know what they are talking about.

People often talk about “retirement visa” or “marriage visa”. Both don’t exist and can reference at least two different situations.

People say “I have visa on entry” while they have visa exempt.

There’s nothing shady going on. Asking for the stamp is the best solution.
