TLDR : Answer Summary
A Thai national holding dual citizenship may face fines for overstaying if they entered Thailand using their Australian passport instead of their Thai passport. When entering on a foreign passport, they are treated as a foreign national by Thai immigration, which does not acknowledge their Thai citizenship for immigration purposes. Hence, failure to inform immigration about their dual nationality can result in penalties for overstaying. It's noted that they could have applied for a year-long extension based on their Thai citizenship for a fee if they had used their Thai identity.

AND unfortunately this isn't a thai VISA question :/
But know that thais that enter on a passport other than their thai one are considered the nationality they enter on for immigration purposes (visas/extensions, overstays etc)...4

IF a thai holds dual nationality and enters the country on a foreign passport they are considered a citizen from that country NOT thai.
BUT there are avenues that they can get extensions of stays without running up an overstay.
FWIW: even if a thai has an expired passport they can stamp IN to thailand,

they failed to notify Immigration of their dual nationality, that's how...their fault for being ignorant
doesn't make a difference where is says they're born :/ the real reason is why didn't they enter on their thai passport, OR why didn't they go to the immigration office and get an extension based on being thai..
you still have to inform the I/O, just because you were born somewhere does not make you a citizen...many have given up their citizenship due to a plethora of reasons
why would they enter on the aus and not thai passport ?

Which passport did the Thai National use to enter Thailand? AU or Thai ? Does the Thai have a valid Thai passport?

The real question is
why wouldn't a thai national that entered the country on another passport NOT go to the immigration office, show their thai i/d card or passport and just get a YEAR extension for 1900baht based on being thai with out any other paperwork
thats interesting when my wifes thai passport expired and she used uk she extended for 1900 baht but only given 30 days ? she now has updated thai so ok from kow
