DTV visa experience as a couple in Taipei (1x approved, 1x rejected) - Remote Work (both self-employed with our own companies)
✅ Each of us prepared the following documents:
- application form with one passport photo
- Copy of our passport
- Application letter
- Service contract with one client in German language
- IRS document from our L.L.C. with the EIN
- Invoices and payments from 3 clients (in the past 6 months)
- Official Bank statement (from our private bank account + business bank account) -
- Proof of savings account (with more than 500.000 Baht)
So we went to the Embassy at 9am to hand over our documents and should come back the same day at 3.30 pm to pay for our visas and the next day we should be able to pick it up.
❗️First important thing: only a screenshot from the bank account overviews isn’t enough.
My boyfriends’ documents were accepted on that first day. 💪
❌ Mine were not.
These were the reasons:
- They wanted to have my service contract in English
- I wrote “partner” instead of “client” in the application letter. And also I wrote “we” instead of “I” one time.
- My passport cover was not looking good anymore so they said even if I handed them all my documents in the way they asked me for they couldn’t give me the visa.
So be careful with that please.
Luckily I have a 2nd passport.. but it was in Bangkok.
So my boyfriend flew straight to Bangkok to get my second passport for me and flew straight back to Taipei (all during one night) so the next morning I applied again.
In the end I finally got accepted as well.
I am very grateful that I have it now and that my boyfriend supported me in such a great way - I hope this post can help you✨🫶

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post shares a couple's experience applying for a DTV visa in Taipei, where one application was approved and the other was rejected. Both applicants prepared extensive documentation but encountered issues during the submission. The main reasons for the rejection were language requirements for the service contract, wording issues in the application letter, and the poor condition of one passport cover. After overcoming these challenges, the second application was successful. Comments from the community provide additional insights on processing times and tips for others applying for similar visas.
Guy sounds like a real piece of work.Holy smokes.. Bangkok to taxi to taxi to Taipei all in one night? He really went the extra mile to get it done for you. Good stuff!
I am going to apply in vietnam as self employed. About how long does it take to get the visa (in general) from your experiences? I saw its supposed to be 15-20 working days
If you follow the tips via posts from successful applicants and what they submitted you will be fine. Vietnam has a very high approval date in part due to applicants repeating the success of others.
And just out of curiosity, are both of your passports from the same country? Or different countries? For in person applications it wouldn't matter, but for online applications a different country of passport would require to start a new application from zero.
Yes, both passports are from the same country:) But it was basically a new application from zero again as well. I just knew exactly then what I should provide them exactly this time.
