TLDR : Answer Summary
A South African in Trang seeking to extend their stay in Thailand can apply for a multiple entry tourist visa (METV) before arriving, which allows stays of up to 60 days each entry. If already in Thailand, they should visit a Thai consulate in a neighboring country (notable options being Kota Bharu, Vientiane, or Savannakhet) to obtain a single entry tourist visa, which can be extended at the local immigration office for an additional 30 days. Expanding the stay further could involve another visa run to a different consulate or utilizing a visa-exempt entry followed by an extension.

Not to be facetious but why didn't you BUY a visa for thailand BEFORE you washed up here?
GO to a thai consulate in a neighboring country and BUY a single entry tourist visa. That will get you stamped in for 60 days and you can extend that by 30 days at the immigration office in your area for 1900baht. Then do it again at a different thai consulate. That will buy you almost 6 months. Then you could also do a 30 day visa exempt entry and extend that by 30 days as well.
South African passport holders cannot use the thai consulates in Penang or Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. SO you either go to one in Kota Bharu, or the ones in Vientiane or Savannakhet Lao.

You should have obtained the correct visa for your stay in your home country....the METV. Multiple entry tourist visa. Not available to obtain in SE Asia.
