Applied in LA Dec 16, 2 week soft power cooking. Emailed Jan 2, further documents requested/sent Jan 4, emailed later that day with no response for weeks. Called many times but the line is disconnected. Decided to go to Thailand on my scheduled flight anyway. Emailed the consulate again Jan 26. They requested the same exact documents I previously submitted. I uploaded and emailed, then was approved today.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user applied for a Thai cooking visa on December 16 and faced communication issues with the consulate, including a disconnected phone line and repeated requests for the same documents. After emailing the consulate again on January 26, they received approval. Commenters congratulated the user and inquired about the cooking school details. Others provided advice on activating the visa by exiting and re-entering Thailand.

Then what you need to do so you can "activate" your DTV is

exit/re-enter the country to get OFF this free stamp entry you're on now (60 day visa exempt) and to get ON the DTV 180 day entry stamp

Make sure you print out the PDF they emailed you as that IS your visa and give that with your passport to the officer when you stamp back in to thailand
