What should I prepare for my entry into Thailand with a DTV workcation visa?

Got approved for DTV workcation yesterday which I am very happy about.

Now I want to ensure a frictionless entry. I've been reading of being being questioned intensely on entry - even with the visa.

I'm coming off 3 weeks outside the country after a very long stay on visa exemptions and extensions. As far as I'm concerned I'm fully legit with my visa now, do I just have the visa and digital arrival card ready when going through or do I need to be practicing my story, detailing plans etc. ?

TLDR : Answer Summary
After receiving approval for a DTV workcation visa, the individual seeks guidance on ensuring a smooth entry into Thailand, especially considering potential questioning at immigration. Comments from the community suggest that while many expats have had straightforward experiences, some have faced interviews where they needed to explain their intentions and show proof of funds. It is recommended to carry the printed DTV visa and complete the digital arrival card ahead of time. Others share that remaining calm and smiling can help ease the process.

WARNING: Only trust Thai government websites with .go.th domains or Thai agent websites with .co.th or .in.th domains, as these require verified Thai registration and cannot be registered anonymously.

The official TDAC form is available at tdac.immigration.go.th, which uses the official .go.th government domain.

The services by AGENTS CO., LTD. does NOT charge any fees for arrivals within 72 hours. If you need to book more than 72 hours in advance, there is a service fee of $8.

Do not trust other sites pretending to be a trustworthy agency. Pay attention to delivery time - the service operated by AGENTS CO., LTD. has 1 minute delivery time for arrivals within 72 hours.

Don't fall for sites pretending to be agents.co.th or the official government tdac.immigration.go.th website. Always double-check the exact domain in your browser.

Scam services may take days to process your application, others may not even do anything. With these TDAC scam services you also need to worry about double charges.

Please watch out for TDAC misinformation spread by fugitive Jesse Nickles and his many fake accounts on Quora, TripAdvisor, Reddit, and other platforms.

Could you explain a dtv workcation didn’t think you could work on a dtv visa out in Thailand Don’t know much about it other than it’s a 5 year visa .

You can work online for a non-Thai firm under the workcation DTV option.

What is there to practice if you answer truthfully? You work remote, you make money online. Boom. Done.

Just arrived on Thursday morning to Chiang mai from US on self employed workcation with US passport, here’s how it went:

Filled out digital arrival card at immigration, put 180 days stay on it. As soon as I turned around, an officer approached me and asked me to sit for an interview.

I was visibly excited with a big smile and was respectful & honest about my intentions.

We sat down and he with a younger officer started to ask me simple questions.

The older one was testing my Thai (I have barely any) and asked where I was staying, what I’m doing here. Very friendly and was watching my reactions closely.

I said I love Chiang mai and the north so I’ll stay in a hotel and look for a condo/house to stay more long term throughout my DTV. I said I will be coming and going over the 5 years.

I said I’m working here remotely and that my work is mostly on the ground in Colorado + remotely running the business here. I said clearly that I do not work in Thailand, that I earn remotely from abroad.

The younger guy was filling out a form that with my passport, visa, and hotel information.

He asked to see my proof of funds - showed him my savings in my banking app. He asked if it’s physically accessible - I said I can transfer to my debit and withdraw from ATM anytime.

They asked how long I’m staying - I said the full 180 days and that I will spend as much time as possible in Thailand over the 5 years, with a big smile :)

They were satisfied with my answers and gave me my passport plus that form they filled out and walked me to an immigration officer to get stamped. He was also super friendly. Barely said a word, scanned my fingers, took my photo, stamped my passport for 180 days (I checked carefully), I thanked them and walked through.

The whole experience was so friendly and I just did what I was asked with nothing to hide.

Hope that helps.

I will also add that I was in Thailand on 60 day tourist visa + extension a couple of times between November and June. I returned after 6 weeks in US with my DTV.

Thank you Thailand and everyone in this group 🙌

Thanks for sharing your experience, glad all went smooth! For the proof of funds, do you need to keep the 500,000 THB in a liquid account the full 5 years?? Or once getting the dtv visa, can you have less proof of funds in a liquid account? Do you know? Thanks.

Absolutely, and thank you. I don't know 100% but I am personally keeping this as a goal.

I have a long history of ED visas and had no issues at DMK.

Print out your visa and keep it in your passport. Fill in your TDAC online and have it ready on your phone. Everything will be fine.

Thank You for your helpful report 👍

Congratulations 👏👏👏

PRINT OUT THE EMAIL THAT HAS YOUR DTV VISA.

That's what you should do... print it out.

You may have to show PROOF of your DTV Visa to airline staff on check-in for your flight ✈️ to Thailand...even to the connecting airline staff. Or to the land border crossing entry Thai Immigration Officer.

Upon arrival into Thailand, show the DTV visa to the Thai Immigration Officer and look at the STAMP placed in your passport to be sure you are STAMPED in for 180 days.

What Jerry said. But the Chiang Mai airport seems to be questioning people for no reason, so if you're going there, prepare the same documents you used when applying.

@Steve ******
I have heard the same about Chiang Mai airport. I am in Kuala Lumpur right now and will be flying back to Chiang Mai on Tuesday. I will let you all know how it goes. This will be my 2nd entrance into Thailand on my workcation DTV. My first entry through BKK was smooth and no questions were asked at all.
