What should I mark as my intended departure date for the DTV visa application if I plan to stay long term in Thailand?

Hi everyone! One stupid question about the DTV -visa application: they ask for the intended date of arrival & intended day of departure. Me and my boyfriend intend to stay for longer term (thus the DTV visa :D), but what should we then mark as an intended date of departure without knowing if we will be granted the visa or not? Should we mark only 1-3 months (in case we need to travel with regular tourist visas) or can we mark the day of departure eg. 6 months later? Also they ask for the length of accommodation / length of stay in certain place: if we mark eg. 180 days, then we clearly expect to get the DTV-visas - and if we mark eg. 30 days, then we expect not to get them? :D
Answer summary
When applying for the DTV visa, it's common for applicants to feel uncertain about the intended date of departure, especially when planning for a long-term stay. Most responses suggest marking the intended departure date under 180 days to align with visa requirements. However, it's also mentioned that you could indicate a later date (up to 180 days) to show your commitment to stay longer. It's crucial to provide accommodation details that reflect your long-term plans, although the exact length of accommodation mentioned can be flexible, with many successful applicants only providing proof for a short stay initially. Including a cover letter explaining your long-term intentions and plans is also recommended to support your application.

When I applied I never put return information as I didn’t have any. No airline, bus or train ticket out of country. I still don’t have a return out of country yet. Just my International travels all returning to my condo in Bangkok.

It is an application for DTV not application for if I get denied a DTV. Put it as you intend to use the DTV if approved. Ensure that it is in fact at or below 180 days

copper_fox_08 Thank you! And then a tiny, funny detail: If we stay in the first place in Bangkok eg. 1.-3.12, should I mark 2 days or 3 days? :D Does it matter?

Anonymous participant I am not sure what you are asking here? Are you saying:

1. You are flying in and then out of the country in three days?

2. Staying at a hotel for three days and then another hotel/accommodation?

3. Flying into BKK for three days then flying somewhere else in Thailand after? Ex: Hua Him, Pattaya, Samui, etc.

You should indicate intended date about 2 weeks later so that will see that they need to approve your visa urgently. And the intended date of departure should be just below 180 days. You didn't state what you applied for so if it's soft power doing a course, the min acceptable course is 6 months. Putting a shorter date would make them question the authenticity of your course and entire application. Good luck

Are you talking about the TDAC? Leave it blank. It's not a mandatory field (no star *).

I put the date to total exactly 180 days from the intended arrival date. It's only for the application and isn't a fixed date that you have to stick to.

I also included proof of a 12 month lease on a condo.

I also included proof of a flight booked into Thailand that matched the details I provided. I read on here some people were asked for this so I booked it and included it from the start.

I stated in my cover letter that I intended to use Thailand as a base and spend some of the year travelling (rather than giving the impression that I was intending to live there full time).

My application was approved with the above with no additional document requests.

Put an intended departure date under 180 days. It is ok to submit accommodation details for 30 days or less.

Thank you! And then a tiny, funny detail: If we stay in the first apartment in Bangkok eg. 1.-3.12, should I mark 2 days or 3 days? 😃 Does it matter?

Anonymous participant Normally embassies count calendar days, including both the arrival day and the departure day. For a stay 1–3 Dec, you should note 3 days, not 2.

Thank you. But it seems that if we mark the intended departure date under 180 days, the accommodation should also equal to that. If we try marking eg. 30 days of accommodation, the system keeps resisting and says "this is less than 180 days." :D

Anonymous participant do not do that. Mark your departure date out about 350 days, giving them the impression you are also planning to get the extension, whether you are, or not. Those that have been given METVs, multi entry tourist visas, good for six months, 180 days, instead of the dtv they applied for all had under 180 days listed as departure date. Just saying.

@Kool ******
Those given METVS was not simply due to a 180-day departure date. Vast majority of applicants put 180 days or less and approved for the DTV.

Anonymous participant You should show your intention to stay long term in a cover letter and detail how the DTV will help you do it and your plans for the 5 yrs. If you want to put more than 180 days, that is an option but putting less does not mean you will get a METV.

Ah, okay, I see. So we should prove that we intend to stay in Thailand in longer term so they know it is worth giving us the DTV visas in the first place?

Anonymous participant The accomodation does not have to match departure. Many approved with just a week or so of accommodation.
