I am to fly for the first time early next week to Vientiane in Laos from Bangkok in order to obtain Non B visa. I was wondering if there are any members out there who have done similar recently (on their own not via agency) and would like to share their insight and wisdom related to overall process, required paperwork, preferred currencies, absolute do’s and don’ts’s, shoulds or shouldn’t’s in making it as pleasurable and hassle-free experience as possible. Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Flying from Bangkok to Vientiane to apply for a Non-B visa can be straightforward if you follow some key advice shared by others. Ensure your company's paperwork is in order, as this is essential for your visa application. Arrive at the Thai consulate before 11:30 AM for submissions, and be prepared to pay fees in Thai baht, which is widely accepted in Laos. Avoid getting too much Lao kip as it can be difficult to exchange back. Lastly, remember to return the next day after 1:30 PM to collect your passport.

Don't get stuck with a bunch of Lao kip, not even the currency exchange would take mine back. I'm still a Kip millionaire..

Yes it is very very hard to change outside Laos. You can change it right on the border though, just immediately before you leave through Laos immigration, there's a little row of about three banks. Rates are fine there too.

The paperwork comes from your company, so if they have their shit together you're good paperwork wise (y)

You need to show up at the thai consulate in Vientiane before they stop accepting applications (they are open 8:30-11:30).

You pay for the visa in thai baht. In fact you can use thai baht the entire time you're there if you want to it's taken about everywhere.

Don't trust the touts outside the consulate ;)

Don't forget you go back the next day to get your passport after 1:30..
