Just got my DTV Workcation Visa approved today, applied via the Penang, Malaysia consulate. Super relieved but if I am being honest, I wouldnโt recommend going through that branch unless you are ready for some serious mental stress ๐
Timeline:
๐ Applied: 24 June
๐ Submitted additional documents: 4, 8 & 10 July
โ Approved: 10 July (submitted docs in the morning, approved by evening)
Huge thanks to this group for all the helpful tips! I would love to give back -- feel free to ping me if you have any questions. Happy to help! :)

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user shared their experience successfully obtaining a DTV Workcation Visa from the Penang consulate in Malaysia. They noted the stressful application process and provided a timeline: applied on June 24, submitted additional documents on July 4, 8, and 10, and received approval by July 10. They encouraged others to reach out with questions about the process. Commenters congratulated them and shared insights on the difficulties of applying through the Malaysian consulate, suggesting alternatives for smoother processing.
Anonymous participant 564 Malaysian here, I applied via the Penang branch thinking it would be easier since itโs closer to me. But honestly, I would recommend going through KL or Kota Bharu instead. From what I have heard, they have clearer procedures and a more consistent experience with DTV applications.
Hereโs what I was asked to submit as additional documents:
1) Please provide all pages of passport, including empty pages.
1b) Please answer the following questions: 1. What's the details of your work in Thailand. 2. Do you have an office in Thailand. 3. How often do you travel to Thailand for working. 4. Why do you choose Thailand for the place of remote working.
2) Please provide more information: What is the nature of your work? and provide samples of your work.
3) Please provide a bank statement with movement of transaction.
My tip: Send everything as clearly and completely as possible, I combined everything into one PDF and submitted it in one go to help speed things up.
