What should I know about applying for the DTV Workcation Visa through the Penang, Malaysia consulate?

Hey peeps!

Just got my DTV Workcation Visa approved today, applied via the Penang, Malaysia consulate. Super relieved but if I am being honest, I wouldnโ€™t recommend going through that branch unless you are ready for some serious mental stress ๐Ÿ˜…

Timeline:

๐Ÿ“… Applied: 24 June

๐Ÿ“Ž Submitted additional documents: 4, 8 & 10 July

โœ… Approved: 10 July (submitted docs in the morning, approved by evening)

Huge thanks to this group for all the helpful tips! I would love to give back -- feel free to ping me if you have any questions. Happy to help! :)

๐Ÿ‘ Congrats! Malaysia is the most difficult embassy to get approval so you did well passing that test. Worth the stress for the DTV though. ๐Ÿ˜Š

What are the additional documents they have asked? and are you holding a long term Malaysian visa or It was just a tourist visa?

Anonymous participant 564 Malaysian here, I applied via the Penang branch thinking it would be easier since itโ€™s closer to me. But honestly, I would recommend going through KL or Kota Bharu instead. From what I have heard, they have clearer procedures and a more consistent experience with DTV applications.

Hereโ€™s what I was asked to submit as additional documents:

1) Please provide all pages of passport, including empty pages.

1b) Please answer the following questions: 1. What's the details of your work in Thailand. 2. Do you have an office in Thailand. 3. How often do you travel to Thailand for working. 4. Why do you choose Thailand for the place of remote working.

2) Please provide more information: What is the nature of your work? and provide samples of your work.

3) Please provide a bank statement with movement of transaction.

My tip: Send everything as clearly and completely as possible, I combined everything into one PDF and submitted it in one go to help speed things up.
